I have been in Star Trek K/S fandom for about 5 years. I know that this story is considered one of the biggest influences in K/S fandom, but I was unable to read it, as I knew it ended with Spock going to Gol. I finally worked up the courage to read Full Circle several months ago. After KisCon, I decided that I would be brave enough to experience the angst of both Spock and Kirk.

I was not disappointed. The language of this story is absolutely gorgeous; you have an exceptional gift with words and phrasing. It's almost as if the story were a visual piece of art; the language seems so tangible.

Kirk's and Spock's personal griefs struck me to the core, especially Spock's. I found myself wanting to shout at Kirk for taking advantage of Spock - he knew what intimacy meant to a Vulcan. But at the same time, I can see how Kirk would behave in this way; he is not knowingly cruel, but is not at a point in his life where he can commit to Spock's satisfaction. Both men clearly are in love, but they are both so stubborn.

I now can understand and appreciate how your work has affected K/S fandom. Thank you for this beautiful story and for everything you have done for K/S fandom.

Author's Response:

Your comments mean so much to me. I started writing this 20 years ago almost to the day. That people are still reading it and finding something worthwhile there means more than I can say.

I think that for me, this story was really about two people who still have so much to learn about love and life. Despite the way that they excel in so many arenas, neither Kirk nor Spock has much experience with real love, or what it takes to make a life with an intimate partner. And I understand how you feel about the sad ending of the first one. It still makes me sad that Gol and that separation happened, and I guess I needed to try and work out what went wrong, and then try to fix it.

Thank you so much for reading, and for commenting.

I know I have already commented on this story, but I recently attended the 2017 KisCon and I have been going back and reading favorite stories. I wanted to let you know how much this story means to me. I have not been active in any fandom, including K/S fandom, for about a year, due to some fairly significant health issues. KisCon has inspired me to revist Kirk and Spock, and Turning Point was the first story I turned to, as I remembered it being incredibly gorgeous and very in character. I was not disappointed in the least.

You have such a gift for language; your writing is beautiful - almost poetic in nature. I felt like I was in New Orleans with Kirk and Spock. I can understand why this story is so important in K/S fandom, and why it helped revitalized K/S in the 90s.

I have several head canons about how Kirk and Spock got together, including one where Spock never goes to Gol. This story fits perfectly into the movie-verse, and I completely accept it as canon. I can see Kirk and Spock behaving and reacting this way (even though it's like, seriously dudes, TALK TO EACH OTHER!).

I rarely read stories that have unhappy endings, but Turning Point is the exception. Thank you so much for this story. Know that it means a lot to me, and inspires many feelings for my favorite couple.

I am very sensitive and often have a difficult time reading prolonged angst. However, the angst of your piece feels very real and natural, and helps emphasize the true beauty and exquisiteness of Kirk and Spock's epic love story.

Your story fits so well into movie canon - Spock always felt so much more comfortable with his humanity after the first film. I love the part where Spock says that he does not regret his experience at Gol, as it lead them to be where they are today. It makes one wonder how Spock would have been had he not questioned himself so drastically. It rings true not just with Kirk and Spock, but with my own life choices.

Thank you very much for an enjoyable read - I know this will become one of my go to fics.

As I just reread Turning Point, I naturally had to follow it up with Full Circle, as I needed my happy ending fix. I know I commented before, but this is a truly fantastic story, and I wanted to let you know how much I love it.

Kirk's journey after Turning Point through the end of Full Circle feels so on point. Kirk truly messed up with Spock, but he didn't knowingly mean to cause harm. I sympathize with Kirk through his failed marriage and panic attacks - his anguish is palpable through your words. Your story complements TMP perfectly, and just feels so right.

Thank you for your beautiful story; it has added so much to K/S Fandom. K/S Fandom is so important to me, as it has brought me through some difficult times in my every day life.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much. I'm sorry it has taken me so long to say thank you! Life has been challenging of late. I really appreciate the time you took to read this, and to comment. <3 It feels like I wrote these stories a lifetime ago, but it still feels amazing when someone takes the time to read them. Thank you.

I thoroughly enjoyed your "what if" AU of Gary Mitchell surviving "Where No Man Has Gone Before." I have always found Mitchell to be an intriguing character, yet he dies in the first episode of the series. Your depiction of Mitchell and the consequences of him surviving were very interesting, and I have never read anything like this before. As always Kirk and Spock manage to be together in every universe; they truly are t'hy'la, aren't they? A wonderful read, thank you!

Author's Response:

They could have done a lot with Mitchell; it's too bad he wasn't kept around for at least a couple more episodes. I'd always wondered how it would have effected Kirk and Spock's relationship if Mitchell had lived. I finally had to set it down on paper.

Really glad you enjoyed the story. Thanks so much for reading and for your wonderful comments!

N.B. Despite the name, this is not a 'challenge' or humorous story.

In his final year, Spock briefly meets Kirk at the Academy Winter Ball. One day, many years later, the man who made a lasting impression on Spock assumes command of the Enterprise. Shamelessly romantic, this was written for the 2008 K/S Advent Calendar.

I loved this story - it was a romance but still felt true to the characters. Spock is such a difficult POV to write, and you did such a fantastic job. I liked your intergration of Gary Mitchell into the story - I am always interested in people's depictions of him, and I enjoyed yours very much. Thank you for a very enjoyable read!

Author's Response:

You've paid me a huge compliment by saying I stayed true to the characters - thank you!  I really enjoy writing from Spock's POV and am so glad you feel it works.   I find Gary Mitchell an intersting character.  I felt underneath the bravado, there was a degree of insecurity that left him feeling somehow inferior, so that when he was transformed, he finally had the power over others that his ego demanded.  Thanks for the lovely feedback! ♥

I loved your inclusion of Captain Pike; the Menagerie is one of my favorite episodes, both from character study and slash points of view.

I love this so much! The TOS Tribble episode is one of my favorite episodes - and DS9 did such a fantastic job paying homage to this classic episode. This "behind the scenes" fic is now my headcanon for Sisko and Dax during their time aboard the Enterprise. I LOVE the flirting and bantering between Spock and Kirk - it is so them and shows their relationship beautifully to Sisko and Dax. Love the nod to Kirk constantly staring at Spock's butt during TOS - seriously, he did it all the time! Thank you so much for this lovely read!

It actually can cause me great distress at times because you write it so well. I LOVE your Jim - this is the Jim Kirk that I like to see in Reboot fic: caring, loving and kind. The romance is gorgeous. I have this story downloaded on my kindle, and it is one of my go-to K/S stories. Thank you so much for writing it.

This was one of the first K/S fics I read when I entered K/S fandom. I remember really enjoying it. After Amanda Warrington recommended it again at this year's KisCon, I downloaded it to my kindle to read on the flight back home. I have been absolutely glued to my kindle ever since!

Your world building and science is fantastic. I love your Kirk voice/POV - I think he can be really difficult to write as a likeable character in the reboot world, and you did such a great job. The emotion and angst touched me deeply in this story; I could feel Kirk's frustration and love for Spock. I really appreciate that porn/sex scenes didn't drive the story, but were still relevant to the plot.

Thank you so much for the lovely reread!

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I actually don't remember much about this story except that it took a long time, so I admire the commitment required to read it not once but twice!! And you weren't the only one delving back into old fic on the flight home from that con :)
