Bio:

An avid Trek fan from day one in 1966, it continually gratifies me to see how ubiquitous Star Trek and its elements have become in our cultures. And now, with two going on three reboot movies, it is truly the myth that defines our post-modern, space-capable world.

My wishes will be complete the day that TPTB have main characters in a variety of relationships as a normal process, not just the current one man/one woman standard, but varieties embracing the true IDIC meaning.

Meanwhile, until the cultural norm shifts and catches up to those of us way ahead of them, thanks to all the writers who keep adding bit by bit to the weight of IDIC in our culture with their visions of love--for all.

And most especially for Jim Kirk and Spock 😊

Gilda, it was really satisfying getting to revisit this story online! I've always thought it was a great creative storyline for introducing our two boys well before the Enterprise. Spock's essential alienness is highlighted so well in your writing--the intrinsic differences in outlook and culture, leading to heartbreaking misunderstandings is exactly what happens with two such diverse cultures. Thank god for Bones...without him, these two might not have overcome their insecurities and heartaches. Lovely.

Author's Response: Thanks, I'm so glad you like it! It's always great to hear that one of my stories has made an impression, this one especially.

Summary: Many moons ago, Omega posted a great story called "The Captain and the Commander." Due to the length restrictions of the subject window in my mailbox, it came up only as "The Captain and the Comma". What a curious title, I thought, then realized upon opening that it of course had nothing to do with punctuation. However, the title stuck in my mind, and this is the result.

What a wonderful follow up to Lost Sailor! You know I adore Vulcan culture and ritual, so this just hits the spot for me. Don't know how I missed this in the past years, but I'm glad I read it now.

Author's Response:

Sweet!  Yeah, I'm a nut for Vulcan stuff.  I've got a lot of my own words -- not to disparage others' efforts, but hell, who ever heard of a whole world that only had one language?  Especially a world as old and, er, *complicated*, as Vulcan!  The office of T'shar'vi (spelling?) I took from the excellent novel "Broken Images," so I dinna take credit for that one.

And M'Benga is a great character who we saw far too little of, IMHO.  Glad ye liked this!

N.B. Despite the name, this is not a 'challenge' or humorous story.

I  loved this! I especially enjoyed your characterizations: the gentleness and intelligence of Jim Kirk, and Spock's Vulcan face tempered by his human half--very well done. The fact that they met and fell for each other so young, and yet still had to wait because of fate and timing fits it quite wonderfully into canon. (And the uniform replicators!! LOL You thought of everything!)

That is quite a powerful piece. You've drawn T'Prayd so well, with all her emotional blindness and jealousies and passions--almost unsettling in her intensity and unawareness. I am so glad she "broke" and that Spock could help her! I ached for her.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much for the feedback.  :-)  I really enjoy writing 3rd party POV stories, particularly from the POV of a flawed character.  T'Prayd was a challenging character to write, because she had so little self-awareness.  So much emotion, concealed (poorly) beneath that Vulcan facade.

Bittersweet, oh so bittersweet.

Absolute Horizon? Is there more of this series somewhere? I confess to wanting to read until I, or, er, the characters (!) reach some sort of resolution :-)

Absolute Horizon is the story that started the series, it can be found on FFN or Ad Astra. But it's chronologically earlier than any of these.

I'd really like some resolution, too, but instead we have the bloody Nexus. I'm figuring out its consequences still. ::sighs::

I particularly found the idea of them including older Spock in the bonding to be a unique and quite ingenious idea, especially since you'd had him past the age of procreation--in male menopause!. That worked very well. Having children with a lesbian Vulcan couple was also a great idea...happy results for everyone. Enjoyed it!
