Whoa. That was pretty hot... but incredibly sad. I liked it, though. Too bad they cleaned up. I would LOVE a scene where Spock smells Sarek on Kirk and figures out what happened.

I love how Spock gets so wrapped up in circumventing Kirk's arguments that he forgets the original (and ultimate) point of the conversation: Kirk's seduction attempts. Good times.

There are 2 things I want to mention. One thing I'd like to point out is that each time the speaker changes, a new paragraph should start. Like this part:

"How long have you known, Jim?" Kirk glanced at Spock and swallowed. "Known what?"

That should be separated, preferably before the word "Kirk." That way the reader knows that the first statement was Spock's and the following one is Kirk's.

Also, when one person's dialogue lasts for more than one paragraph, you should use quotation marks to open each paragraph of dialogue, but you shouldn't put a closing quotation mark until the end of the final paragraph of speech. If you put a closing quotation mark, it makes it seem as if a different person is saying the next paragraph.

Make sense? I hope so, and I'm not trying to be a jerk. I love grammar, and most of the time I wouldn't even bother with trying to help some of these authors with theirs. But I like this story, so I wanted to help make it better!

I love you! I would be very interested to see a Reboot version of this essay. It seems as if a lot of new fans (Okay, I'm fairly new, but I am new because of TOS reruns, not because of ST:XI) take these myths and fanon ideas and accept them as established fact. Of course, Reboot!Kirk is a totally different person than TOS!Kirk because of their dissimilar backgrounds, but there are some innate characteristics that people have. The fact that his dad died doesn't mean that his mom was a wreck forever. Seriously, how many people don't deal and move on (at least to some extent) after 25 years? Sure, there's always going to be some sadness, but eventually it's outweighed by good memories and gratefulness for having known the person. I doubt that his mom's personality changed that much after the death of her husband, so he would've gotten a lot of guidance the same from her that TOS!Kirk did.

Anyway, maybe I should write that! I have a lot of pet peeves about the way these characters are treated in some ST:XI fics. New fans and ST:XI writers should be required to read this essay!

Author's Response:

Thank you so much.

Fans who just discovered K/S via the new Star Trek movie MUST acquaint themselves with the classic TOS Kirk/Spock - even if they care nothing for classic K/S fanfic.

I forgot to add, in response to #3 (and the statement: "He ends the battle as soon as he can, and is compassionate with his defeated foes"), that even Reboot!Kirk shows that characteristic. After they've clearly defeated the bad guy, he offers to take them as prisoners instead of destroying them and their ship. Considering all that guy had done, that's a pretty magnanimous offer (of which Spock disapproves...).

Author's Response:

Thank you for your comments.  It's true that Reboot!Kirk is not very different from classic Kirk.

I love the part in this episode when they're in the gym and the security guards rush in. When Charlie knocks them over, one of the guys has this goofy grin on his face. Guess Kirk isn't the only one who likes it rough! Check out the guy on the left at 8:36.

I like this a lot! Until the "New Vulcan" part, I was picturing TOS Kirk and Spock, and after that part, I started picturing Kirk!Prime and Spock!Prime. It didn't even occur to me until about 20 minutes later that it's about Reboot Kirk and Spock. A fic like this, that can work equally well in any universe (hell, I guess it could even work in the Mirror!Verse), is very rare. Well done! (I sound like I'm talking about steak...)

Summary:

DONE!!!!!

Since I did a pregnant Spock, it only seems fair that Jim get equal time. This is an answer to KrazieKat2009's Baby Maker challenge, which goes like this:

Summary: Features preggers!Kirk. I would like for Spock to still be in a relationship with Uhura at start of story. And Jim has secretly been in love with his First Officer for the past year. No one knows of his attraction to Spock, not even Bones. (Though he can be suspicious if you want). During a scout out on a once technologically advanced planet, Spock and Kirk stumble across an old, left behind piece of technology. The technology feeds off of emotional energy to create new life; it senses Jim's utmost desires to be with Spock, and so it activates and causes Jim to be impregnated, with Spock as his child's DNA "donor". Neither Jim or Spock are aware that Jim has been impregnated at first, but soon they become aware. Another side effect of the machine is that it causes the pregnant person to become more dependent on the one s/he has feelings for, so Jim's attraction magnifies, and it takes all he can not to let Spock find out. BONUS POINTS: If Spock, at first, wants nothing to do with the baby because he is with Uhura, but his paternal instincts start to kick in and his attraction to Kirk grows intensely. BONUS POINTS: If Uhura turns out to be mature in the end and wants Spock and Kirk to be together.SUPER BONUS POINTS: Spock becomes possessive over pregnant!Kirk, and finds his pregnant Captain sexually tempting, and gets aroused constantly when near Kirk. MEGA SUPER POINTS: There is eventual (lot of) pregnant sex, and Kirk is a "virgin" when it comes to men. TROPE: Bottom!Jim

Whew! I don't know if I can get all that into one story, but I'll do my best. I'll try to have a chapter up every day or two. Enjoy.

Summary:

Done, done, done!

This is a personal request from a fan, Katrinna Le Fay (yes, I do requests; sometimes it takes awhile, though).

Jim and Spock meet as children. Jim's mother is absent; his caretakers are abusive. Sarek and Amanda rescue their son's friend and raise the boys together. They discover they are t'hy'la and are bonded. Spock goes to Earth to join Starfleet; Jim goes with him.

This will be sort-of Abrams, with a dash of AU mixed in. for example, I'm not killing off Amanda. Enjoy.
