This is a response to smokeySpock's Discovery challenge, which requested that Kirk and Spock be captured and informed that they must put on a sex show for an alien. Neither one of them had thought of the other that way before, but if they don't perform, they'll be handed over to the Romulans, who as we all know have pending death sentences on both our heroes. Since they have to perform well, they're going to need to practice...

I do not know who invented the concept of "chensei," but I borrowed them for Spock's anatomy in this piece. My thanks to the original creator, and I promise to rinse them off and put them back where I found them.

Man CMM, I read all your stories hungrily, and you are the master when it comes to plot twists, but this is the granddaddy of all "I didn't see that coming"s!!  I usually do not take the time to review, because, well, I am just lame like that...  However, I had to drop in and congratulate you on stirring the emotional pot, so to speak.  Think you enjoy causing a ruckus in fandomland hearts everywhere - am I right or am I right???

I love all of your stories, but Dress Rehearsal (my challenge, which you so graciously wrote for me) is my alltime favorite on the archive - you somehow cracked my head open, pulled out all the wanted details, and brilliantly wrote it exactly the way I would have if I had the amazing talent you have.  In the meantime, thanks for the "above-and-beyond" feedings of K/S awesomeness!!

WOW!  You created a difficult challenge for yourself - Spock's Pon Farr scene with a Jim he has never met - and effortlessly navigated through it with a sensitive, imaginative rendition which leaves the reader begging for more, more, more!  Jim's character is totally on mark regarding his preoccupation with his escape, his compassion for Spock and his physical and mental reactions to the situation at hand.  Spock's loving, tender treatment of this man he had never met, while he himself is suffering so, is also spot on.

LOVED the mindmeld sequence as it was incorporated into the scene - the description of the meld and characters' feelings throughout added immeasurably to the overall believability.  Also - the addition of Jim asking Spock his name (as well as Spock's repeated "vocal caressing" of Jim's name) - a small yet very important detail which made this story stand out.

Never read a Pon Farr scene quite like this one - definitely looking forward to future updates, as well as an answer to the big question:  did Spock bond with Jim??

Author's Response:

It was challenging.  I must have gone though that chapter dozens of times adding, taking away, and rewriting parts.  And I was worried about the mindmeld; I don't think I've really written one of those before either.  I'm glad it was well-recieved.  And you'll see some of what happened as a result of the mind meld soon.

An Unexpected Journey by CMM Rated: ADULT (NC-17) starstarstarstarstar [Reviews - 545]
Summary:

Now done!

This is in response to Kittygirl's Jim the Single Parent challenge:

This idea has been floating around in my brain for a while so I figured I'd issue a challenge to see what people came up with. This does have the potential to be rather long.

It goes like this:

While Spock is still with Uhura, he ends up having a drunken fling with Kirk, who is completely in love with him. Kirk somehow ends up pregnant with his child(it doesn't matter how you make this come about, either meddling aliens or an auxiliary uterus idea that keeps floating around or that Jim just can). When Spock is finally informed of the conception he decides that, since he and Uhura cannot have children together for whatever reason (completely your idea why), Jim's child be the perfect candidate instead and decides to take the child and whisk it away New Vulcan after it is born to raise it with Uhura. He believes Jim to illogical and reckless to raise a child. Enlisting McCoy's help, who thinks that its better for the child to be raised by Vulcan's, the trio keep a close eye on Jim in case he gets wind of the plan. When Jim realizes what Spock is planning, he puts in his resignation in Starfleet and leaves for parts unknown. Some years pass (more than 2 less than 7) and Jim returns as a personal favor to Chris Pike to command the Enterprise again with a little surprise in tow. Now Spock has to deal with a child that does not like him for the pain he caused its Mother(the kid has to call Jim mom)and the complete distrust of Jim with his child.

You may use any name you wish for the child, boy or girl. How Jim finds out the plot is entirely up to you. Uhura could tell him in a fit of anger at him, or he could overhear them talking or McCoy tells him in a fit of Conscience.

I would like it in the Abrams Universe, because I think a mixture of Jim and Spock would look so cute with Blue eyes. However this does come with a few stipulations.

1. Under no circumstances does Jim have any communication with the trio of evildoers until he returns to the Enterprise(I've always wanted to use that word). In his mind Bones, Spock, and Uhura betrayed him. Anyone else is completely welcome.

2. Sarek is the doting Grandpa... He can know he has a grandchild and is kept updated on the child's growth. I think it would be an awesome way to re-introduce Jim back to the Enterprise by having him and child picked up from Sarek's home...

And 3...

HAS TO HAVE HAPPY ENDING!

Since two of my other long pieces are coming pretty close to the end, I decided it was time to reclaim my crown as queen of mpreg.

Much, much respect, CMM, for writing this emotionally heart-wrenching story. Oddly enough, I can see why nuSpock is dead-set to get his hands on that baby, since he a) has not had enough time to really get to know Jim, b) sees the baby as being an extention of Amanda in a way, c) sees all the factors involved from a black-and-white (logical) point of view instead of being able to grasp the emotional ramifications and ) really believes what he is doing is right for the baby.  Humans make disastrous decisions all the time regarding custody over children for myriads of reasons, some to punish the other custodial adult, others because they simply think they are right when it is obvious to everyone else that they are so, so wrong.  Not to say I excuse nuSpock for being such a clueless bastard.  I know you will work your magic in making him see his mistakes eventually.  By the way - PERFECT response from Pike to Spock after all was said and done.  Very satisfying, that, and actually the RIGHT thing to do, as nuSpock is obviously just not ready to captain the Enterprise.

LOVED that Uhura was written as a compassionate woman who saw the situation from a common sense perspective and took the steps she took to warn Jim and contact SpockPrime, even though she knew it might end her relationship with nuSpock.  Also totally agreed with the way you interpreted Bones handling of the situation - he would never betray Jim unless regulations forced him to, as in your example of The Deadly Years.  Was SO glad there was not a long, drawn-out custody hearing on Vulcan with Jim's past (Tarsus, etc.) being used against him in a public forum - that was the one element I was dreading, as this story pulled me in quite forcefully from the start (as do ALL your stories).  Since my heart was breaking for Jim and all the stress he was forced to endure, at least you did not make him face nuSpock in front of the Vulcan Council - Thank You!

I also agree that Uhura needs an award for her sensitive, unselfish actions.  Perhaps an evening commiserating with Bones over Saurian brandy, whilst both of them worry about Jim and the baby, would serve to pull them together...

Selik!!!  I want to kiss you repeatedly for his knight-in-shining-armour actions!!  Absolutely believable that he would move mountains for Jim when he is at his most vulnerable.  Also VERY happy to hear that Sarek will enter the picture and have a sympathetic attitude toward Jim's plight, as well as access to his granddaughter.  The only thing your writing muses could provide for my own selfish gratification is Selik living with Jim and Mimi, perhaps the first couple years of her life to guide her in the Vulcan mind disciplines and care for her while Jim plows those fields...

Such a difficult prompt, yet per your usual, you draw us in and keep us spellbound, checking the achive more frequently just to see if there is a new update...  May your muses smile brightly upon you!

Author's Response:

TY so very much for your thoughtful review. I'm glad that you 'get' my attemtps to give Spock reasons for being a jackass--not excuses but reasons. And no, I didn't want a big dramatic court scene with all Jim's emotional baggage spread out on the floor--however, Spock's worries about his stability are logical, even if unfounded, because with a child to care for, Jim will heal and become much stronger emotionally.

Thanks again.

I second what Liz Night said - I crave each update to this story like chocolate at, ahem, certain times of the month...  Mimi being raised with Caitian kitlings - adorable!!  Selik bringing a doting Sarek to spend time with Jim and Mimi - yes (fistpump)!!  Selik sending video to Bones, and Uhura sharing it with Spock so he can see both Jim and his daughter - surprising, lovely, so, so heart-stirring (where do you come up with these oh-so-touching details in your writing?!?).  It had not even occured to me that you would provide a way for Spock to view his daughter as she grows - such a gift to him in his lonliness, and no doubt will help serve as a catalyst in his redemption.

As usual, CMM, you rock!

Author's Response:

TYTY. I really felt that Spock needed some impetus to quit being a dick, and the sight of his child would help in that regard. As for where I get my details, i honestly don't know--they just seem to show up when I need them. Glad you're enjoying the story.

Dearest CMM,

I have read so many K/S stories wherein Jim and Spock had a child, or children.  However, I have never fallen in love with their offspring as I have Mimi - her characterization is breathtakingly captivating.  I love her combination of wisdom and innocense, sensitivity and thoughtfulness.  The relationship you have created between her and Jim is so beautiful (LOVE her ability to sense his emotions and thoughts, interpreting them in a childlike, yet perceptive way).  Your handling of her character, from birth to the age of four, is joy to experience as one of your readers.

Very satisfying to see Spock's emotional transformation in response to the powerful, memory-stirring dream.  I was wondering what event would serve to finally bring him to his knees and question his motivations, opening his eyes to all his mistakes.  Could the dream possibly have been conjured by Trelane?

LOVE the way in which you brought together all the events leading to Jim and Mimi returning to the Enterprise.  Chris Pike visiting with Sarek and Selik, the Vulcan high council's decision reversal, the refitting of the Enterprise with a battlebridge (wily old Selik - hmm, wonder where he came up with THAT idea...) - and finally, the cherry on top of the sundae, Mimi's extrodinary declaration to Jim that she "wants to go to the stars" ("Leonard Bones" , spoken in Mimi's voice, was SO ADORABLE).  Mimi's simple, yet heart-wrenching question as to whether sa-mekh might want to take care of her sometimes - the emotional impact of her voice and words is beyond perfection.

As usual, CMM, you continue to surprise, astound and stir hearts with your imaginative, thought-provoking creations.  I wait eagerly to experience Jim and Mimi's return to the Enterprise, and am emotionally fixated on how you will interpret Spock and Mimi's first meeting - I know it will be magnificent!

Much, much respect - smokeySpock

Even though I KNEW Jim was going to live and be okay in the end, you almost had me weeping during your descriptions of the attack, his disappearance and Spock and Mimi's reactions to his "death".  My heart ached for them.

Mimi's idea to take her shoes off to be able to see her footprints to get back was amazing... of course, it IS Mimi, so I am not surprised...  Also loved the doggy door in the wall.

The ending was TOO PERFECT!!!  Trelane's suggestive remarks to Kirk and Spock about Mimi - not only are you The Queen of Cliffhangers, you are also The Queen of Foreshadowing... The End - for now... ROCKS!

I am torn as to whether this is my favorite CMM story, or the challange story Dress Rehearsal which you wrote for me... have a feeling I will never to be able to really decide.

The Illusion of Something More by TDazz Rated: ADULT (NC-17) starstarstarstarstar [Reviews - 204]
Summary:

Spock's years as a cadet were the worst of his life-- he spent those years homesick, lonely, uncertain if he had made the right decision, terrified that his father would never forgive his choices. The only bright spot came from an unlikely source-- a virtual companion who would tell him anything he wanted to hear for 75 credits an hour.

Jim was too young to be on his own. He was too young to have his own apartment, too young to hold down most jobs. Certainly too young to be selling his services in the sex industry, but no harm done. None of it was real. At least, not until a homesick Vulcan looking for companionship stumbled onto the channel.

What ensued was an addictive, steamy relationship where the lines between fantasy and reality were sometimes blurred beyond recognition. Some parts were painfully real, including the distance that separated them. There was no overcoming that.

At least, not until two weeks into the Enterprise's first five-year mission, Captain Kirk recognizes his First Officer as the client he had fallen in love with when he was just a rebellious teenager. Then it was just an illusion, but now it could be something more.
