This was a great way to bring young Kirk and Spock together. I liked the family you built for Jim - and, again, how in spite of loving them, he wanted to be off to the stars. Your Kirk was a trifle sweeter than I would ordinarily see him, but since you were showing him as a young man, it made sense. Poor Spock, though! Floundering in Jim's sea of emotional issues. I do so enjoy angst. Thanks for sharing this.

Well, depressing, of course, but it's exactly the way it would go, I think. It fits their character. I really liked the back and forth, past and present. You wove the two together very well so that they met at an inevitable end. Now for something to cheer me up! :-)

And, again, genuinely excellent. I'm a sucker for UST or even UET (unresolved emotional tension) and this story throbs with it. Your female love interests didn't turn into obnoxious hags, either, which was pleasant to see. Very satisfying.

Again, wonderful. I hate to sound like a pedant, but there you go - I am one. The gorgeous emotion you write for these two is so enhanced, for me, by your clean, literate prose - what a joy to find the two together like this - passion and structure, just like Kirk and Spock, if one were to reach for a sort of silly simile. :-) Regardless, thank you for writing in this fandom where I've found too little quality writing for my voracious appetite!

You have good ideas here. I don't know if English is or is not your native language (if it isn't, congratulations for being able to write in a nonnative tongue), but there are too many spelling and grammatical errors for me, personally, to be able to enjoy your work as it ought to be enjoyed. I don't mean to be insulting, and it's true I'm a fairly harsh critic. I hope as you keep writing you'll find a helpful beta reader, because there is good work here in terms of content and emotion and plot. It just needs to be cleaned up structurally.

Author's Response: Thank you for your observation. I will check on the version I posted. I thought it was the edited one that was published in Thyla.

I'm of two minds about this. I really like your ideas and your brevity of writing - much emotion is captured in few words, and your scenarios and approach are interesting and unusual. However, your writing itself is awkward, with enough errors of usage and confusing phrasing that I'm not sure I'm always getting what you're saying, and it did affect my enjoyment of your work. I'd guess English isn't your native tongue, due to the nature of the errors. A beta would help  - I know that a competent reliable beta isn't easy to find, and if you need one for an upcoming K/S story, I'd be glad to offer my services. I can attest that I'm an excellent beta (for what that's worth - I might be entirely deluded or even lying, for all you know *g*). If you're interested, email me at idicsavant@verizon.net. If you aren't interested, I wish you the best in your future writing, and thanks for sharing this story.

Thanks, I might take you up on that. I'd appreciate any assistance. ;-)

This was a good read. There was a bit too much telling rather than showing, especially at the start. I wouldn't mention this except you're clearly a good enough writer that I hope you would be open to a little constructive criticism; trimming a bit of your exposition would tighten your work. This is a minor quibble for a very entertaining story, and again, if I didn't think you were good, I wouldn't bother quibbling.

Thanks for sharing this. I enjoyed it.
