I reviewed this WIP in a recent issue of the KS Press.  Thought you'd might like to read it:

This author is quickly becoming one of my favorites.  Although she does tend to focus on what K/Srs like to call "get Spock" stories, she does create rather unique plots that keep her stories very interesting indeed.

This latest work was inspired by a drawing found here:  http://k-laine.deviantart.com/art/Found-129830915  Here, Kirk and Spock have beamed down to a planet to inform the colonists that they had to be evacuated from their homes because of dangerous changes in the planet's weather patterns.  With the colonists reluctant to leave, Kirk decides a non-threatening approach would work the best, so he, Spock, and several others beam down without weapons.  It turns out to be a deadly mistake, for once there, they are attacked, and in the melee and emergency beamup, Spock is left behind.  A desperate attempt to escape his captors is for naught and he soon finds himself bound and helpless, at the mercy of the colonists, who view him as little more than a tool to achieve their means - staying put in their homes.  Even after Spock is rescued, his ordeal has left him beaten and scarred in places that can't be seen,  and even the love and support of his bondmate can do little to help.  But Kirk is nothing if not determined to make his beloved Vulcan whole and well again, and only time will tell if the old saying "love conquers all" will ring true for Kirk and Spock.

This story, like all this author's stories, represents exactly what K/S is all about., and that is not sex or even a good plot line.  It's about emotion, pure and simple, about the love these two men share, and most importantly, it's about allowing the reader to feel that love through the author's words.  This author is an expert at doing so, which is why not only this story, but so many of her other stories are so unforgettable.  I for one not only cannot wait for her to finish this work, I also can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

Author's Response:

Thank you very much! That's a lovely review, and I'm very flattered XD

The Prince and the Servant by Raven Knight Rated: ADULT (NC-17) starstarstarstarstar [Reviews - 85]
Summary:

The King of Terra summons two bright graduates to give them some counsel before they set out among the stars.  He tells them of a history - and a romance - from Terra's past that inspired the change that allowed these two graduates to sit before him to receive it.  That bond formed the cornerstones for some of Starfleet's highest and most important directives.

(A Kirk/Spock retelling of Cinderella.)

The movie this story is based on has always been one of my favorites and I've often thought of writing a K/S story based on it, but could never figure out how I could do so.  I have to say, you've done a marvelous job thus far with your adaption and I'm enjoying this story as much as I enjoy the movie. Keep up the good work!

Author's Response:

Oh thank you!  I am glad you like it!  I love the movie and I'd been very anxious to write a Kirk/Spock version of it for some time.  I had trouble casting a stepfather, however...then Into Darkness came along and with that corrupt admiral came along Carol.  From then on, it was easy to slot the characters where they needed to go.  Than kyou for reading this one! :)  Hope it continues to prove enjoyable as we move forward with the plot. ~ RK

While I think this is an interesting concept for a K/S story, I have to wonder if it really works in the scenario you’ve created.  Abusive relationships, whether physical or emotional, are based on one thing – the power and control the abuser has over the person being abused.  A big part of that power and control is isolating the abused from friends and family so he/she becomes dependent upon the abuser.  It is a key controlling behavior.  That being the case, there is no way an abuser would ever allow the abused to be out of his/her grasp for any significant length of time.  So the scenario that Thomas would ever allow Spock to sign up for a deep space voyage where maintaining the type of control necessary to keep Spock under his thumb would be virtually impossible, is not a very realistic notion.  Even if Thomas did, as you say, have eyes everywhere, the idea of not having any type of physical control over Spock for that length of time, actually for any length of time, would simply not be acceptable.  There would be no way Spock would be allowed to set foot on that ship, on any ship, unless Thomas was coming along, as well.  Otherwise, Spock wouldn’t be going anywhere as far as Thomas was concerned.

So as I said before, while the concept itself is interesting, the scenario you’ve outline thus far is simply not a very realistic one.

Author's Response:

While I appreciate your comment I have to disagree, you have not realised that this is hust the prolouge, I have not outlined how Spock managed to go into deep space, or other various factors involving the relationship. This will be explained until later chapters. In the end it will all play out and Spock's life with Thomas, and how he was treated will be laid out fully. Remember also that Thomas and Spock have been together for a long, long time, so the abuse isn't just physical but emotional also. And another point, I ended the prolouge with the following line:

"A year later, when they return for repairs, he realises he hasn't."

That indicates that there is going to be some important factor to be explained later. (Pretty much everything will be explained later as I have clearly mentioned). We also don't know that much of Thomas's character, as I have yet to fully flesh him out for you lovely people. I am glad that you find the concept interesting, adn also understand that you find the scenario outlined so far not realistic. As I have mentioned before, I haven't even chipped the surface of the iceberg that is Spock's life with Thomas. It will be different (this is afterall an AU).
