Kirk & Spock arrive in the transporter room de-aged to five years old. While crew members search for a solution, Kirk & Spock play together on the Enterprise.
Sent to Nimbus III on an errand of doomed diplomacy, Sarek has a chance encounter with a Klingon, Councilor Gorkon. Before he can get very far in negotiations, however, Sarek is forced to return to Vulcan upon the unexpected death of his son by Khan's hands.
As he struggles to understand the moral implications of the Genesis Project, Gorkon decides to accompany Sarek and Amanda back to Vulcan for his own mysterious reasons -- even as the Klingon Empire prepares for war.
And then of course there is Curzon Dax -- a young man coming to Vulcan in the midst of an identity crisis. Paradoxically he is old enough to remember 150 years worth of one Vulcan family's history, and unlike Sarek and Amanda, he doesn't feel especially bound by Vulcan cultural taboos to keep his mouth shut.
During their strange time together, Gorkon's unexpected wisdom leads to some revelations concerning Sarek's relationship with Spock and his opinions of Spock's bondmate, and helps guide Sarek's actions as Sarek makes plans to visit Jim on Earth.

The first of his kind to be allowed to compete he expects discrimination and upper-class bigotry. What he does not expect is to find himself inexplicably drawn to his champion: a certain traumatized, Vulcan half-breed.

OMG! I love this story. At first I thought it was moving way too slow, but at this point, I appreciate the time I tv took to get here. I love the dynamics of the characters..all familiar but different. I dread and look forward to the fall out that is sure to happen when Jim takes the Maru!

Thank you for your lovely comment. I’m thrilled that you love the story. I love how you find the characters familiar yet different. That’s kind of what I wanted to achieve.
I think you make an excellent point regarding pacing. I suspect it is a little slow, and probably over the whole fic a good 40,000 words could have been gutted. However, as a complete newbie to fanfiction, or indeed, any fiction, I wasn’t aware of stuff like structure, pacing, plot points etc. I just started writing with no real clue as to what the hell I was doing. It hasn’t helped that I’m a slow writer (been writing this since 2012), resulting in my having more than one beta (and now none), which has meant that issues like pacing haven’t been caught. Definitely not the betas fault, I hasten to add.
Since, I started writing this, I’ve learnt a lot more in theory about ‘how to write’ (pacing, plot etc.), but alas it’s now way too late for this fic. I’m certainly not going to start again and re-write it, so it’ll have to stand as it is, a story written by a novice for enjoyment. If I ever get better, then at least I’ll be able to measure my progress against this one. But, if you and others are getting enjoyment out of reading it, then that's all that matters.
Ah, the Maru. Yes, Jim does have a self-destructive streak. We will find out soon. I only hope I can do the fall-out justice (especially with no beta to give it a once over).

I adore "Journey to Babel;" it really does have everything. Leonard Nimoy is wonderful in it, and Mark Lenard plays a Vulcan MUCH better than most guest stars in subsequent series. I don't know if he's a better actor than the others, or if it's because he had Mr. Nimoy to pattern himself after, but his Sarek is very well done.
I have "Journey to Babel" on my phone -- not on a streaming service, but actually on the hard drive -- so I can watch it whenever I want. Because sometimes I need to see Spock being virtuously self-sacrificing and Kirk being valiantly helpful. :-)
He has never been in love. He did his duty to his family and somehow landed up with the title 'single dad'. It sneaks up on him and before he knows it, love has quietly tip-toed into his heart without him knowing it.

This is the story of an abused Jim Kirk, born deaf, who becomes homeless at age 16, ends up on Vulcan after trying to make it on his own, is taken in by Sarek and Amanda, and eventually begins a relationship with Spock.
It is dark, and rated adult for a reason (which is not 'lots of sexy times').
Welcome back! I hope life hasn't been too chaotic! I have missed this story and was pleasantly surprised to see it on my updates.
I originally didn't think I would like the premise, I love it! The slow relationship growth between Spock and Jim is perfect. Please give me an ending this time!
Embarking upon the Five-Year mission with the Starfleet flagship, and the best and the brightest aboard her, it seems that Jim Kirk has it all. With Spock and Bones beside him, his physical recovery complete, he feels ready to take on the universe. But when Command orders the Enterprise into a diplomatic mission involving an unstable, warring planet, somebody is bound to get hurt. Adept at hiding both his demons and his affections, Jim is ready to do whatever it takes to be the Captain Pike wanted him to be, whether that involves sacrificing his happiness, or even his life.
Peace is not a universal objective.

I love k/s angst but not usually the kind where one or both is actually hurt. By I like this story. I did a great job with it kept me angsty and actually give the boys a possibility of a happy ending! Great job!
After a particularly trying alien ritual, a very frustrated and aroused starship captain decides to teach his inappropriately amused Vulcan lover a lesson.
About love, sex, irritation, control, non-verbal communications, and how the two lovers solve the riddle of Vulcans being able to mate out of season. (I have TOS in mind, but there is no reason why it can't be read as AOS.)
Loved it. I like how you dealt with the fact that Spock is mating out of season...a perfect fix. And for some reason, I see this as TOS also. I think kirk in the reboot is a bit more submissive. Great story....great job!
Some day I hope to return to slash and tell the story about how they figured out how you use the bond to kick-start Vulcan sex drives. :) But there are Soo many WIPs on my hard drive (gen so they'll appear in my account on ao3, not here) to get through first... :)
When Kirk asks Spock to seduce McCoy, it's in everybody's best interest for Spock to succeed. If only McCoy saw it that way.
I'm kinda feeling this. I haven't been a big fan of the mirrorverse, but I'm liking your take on it. I'm not a big fan of McCoy being in on Spock and the captain, but your angle intrigues me...and the sex is Damon hawt without being too Perry! I look forward to reading more! Excellent work so far!

Spock is held captive in a Cardassian facility and tortured for information. The only way he bears it is with the knowledge that at least Jim is safe. Unknown to him, they are forcing Jim to watch everything they do to his first officer.
This is going to be a multi-chapter fic. And it will be dealing with very dark themes. Darker than Finding Spock. Please heed the warnings if you are easily triggered.
