The parting of Kirk and Spock made me cry. And seldom have I read Kirk so sympathetically drawn. Thank youyou

Heartbreaking.

I'm finding this hard to read. I can't cope with misunderstandings. I never could read Wuthering Heights! I'm almost skimming in my search for a successful resolution. Do you realise that this is far better than most published pro novels?

Author's Response:

Oh, you made my day.  Thank you so much!  You are doubly kind - to think so and to tell me so.  Have a huge smile on my face, my family will think I've been drinking.

No immediate back up, his First Officer incapacitated, the VSA Sub-Commissioner dead and the Seleya unreachable.  HQ, the task force and the rest of the galaxy out of communication range and a deadly plague reaching out to Vulcan.  The Enterprise isolated.  No real gains for the mission so far, then, he reflected, but on the plus side it did look aesthetically pleasing.

So powerful. What writing.

Author's Response:

Thank you again.  It's very nice to come back from work to messages like this!  A definitive improvement to the working day.  You are very kind.

Overwhelmed. Your rewriting of TMP was masterful. Many jobs around the house have gone undone the last few days. I really don't know what to say that can express my admiration for your work. At some point I think you used the expression of an over large hand finding a comfortable glove. That's how your wonderful ending was for me. Thank you.

Author's Response:

That is more than lovely of you.  I'm walking on cloud 9.  I am, however, very sorry about the household jobs.  If it helps, I never do any at all and I am quite sure your squalor doesn't compare with mine.  Thank you again for making my day, truly.

I read Surfacing, and I've searched you out and found this. I had to break off at the start of Chapter 3, just to tell you how wonderful your writing is. Thank you. Now I can get back to chapter 3!

Author's Response:

In return, I am writing Surfacing and breaking away to thank you for being so kind.  It's enormously appreciated.  It makes the difference between writing and stopping writing, to be honest.  Thank you for being so generous.

Another packed chapter - at the end of half term! Do we have to wait for the summer holidays for chapter 11? That will be hard; this story continues to astonish at its level of erudition and insight.

Author's Response:

No, don't worry.  I don't operate like that and my kids are too old to take up much time during half term.  In fact, I would have posted this sooner had I not got distracted by having guests over the long weekend.  But I'm sorry about the gap.  You only ever review my writing on beautiful sunny days so let's hope this is an omen for the next chapter!  Thank you again for such a kind review.

Clever - you finally introduced Gol, and then had to whisk away from it, to save it for a future moment. What a thrill to see an update. And how intriguing - does this Romulan know who they are? I was also interested in your take on The Enterprise Incident, in that your have it that Spock felt no attraction or connection with the Romulan Commander. Is that something you generally maintain or is it just for he purpose of Surfacing? I would imagine, in view of the astonishing honesty of this story, that it's the former. Looking forward to the next chapter.

Author's Response:

So sorry - I have been caught up in life, hence delay in chapter 12, but didn't realise also that I ignored this review.  Huge apologies, so rude of me when you were so kind.  I think you can read "the Enterprise Incident" a number of ways, and I do think Spock admired the R/Commander, but given everything else (who he is, who she is, the circumstances, the mission) I'm not convinced it was necessarily anything very much else.  But happy to be disagreed witih.  Hope all is well with you.
