Summary:

This is a reponse to Samantha-Kathy's challenge (and apparently Manganra has a similar one as well): Spock Prime Raises Kirk. Spock goes through the wormhole after Nero, but the Kelvin destroys Nero and his ship, being destroyed in the process. Baby Jim is orphaned, and a mysterious Vulcan named Selik adopts him. Vulcan isn't destroyed, and Selik raises Jim there, so Jim knows more about Vulcans than many humans do. He also has some mind powers--and he joins Starfleet and meets a certain Vulcan named Spock.

Summary:

This is in answer to Ambient's challenge for a Sarek/Bones bonding that leads to a Kirk/Spock get together.

The story begins with an STXI twist on the TOS classic, Journey to Babel. Sarek and his party have arrived on the ship, but Bones questions their health after Starfleet send special instructions for callibrating their medical tricorders to account for (read: overlook) certain known abnormalities as a result of the trauma from losing an entire planet of their people.

Called upon by his people, just after having announced his retirement, to represent the Vulcan government in the talks concerning Coridan induction to the Federation, what happens when Bones' suspisions are correct and Sarek begins to manifest physical symptoms of his well-hid mental duress.

Confusion, questions of sexuality, intensely uncomfortable situations and several requests for brain bleach from the ship's replicator for the not quite yet friends Kirk and Spock.

Note: I am aware that another answer to this challenge is being authored by someone else, but the story is in German (not French as I had originally thought as was pointed out to me lol), which I don't read so if there ARE any repeated themes, it's purely unintentional as I have not the patience to copy and paste it into a translator. Normally, I wouldn't answer a challenge that's already had one submission, but I've had two people who are good friends of mine ask me to please answer this challenge and so I write this for them--you both know who you are.

Summary:

Spock works for Starfleet by using his telepathic abilities to dive into the culprit's mind. He's done that for years now - however, his most difficult case is only now beginning. It's been unceremoniously dropped into his lap by Admiral Pike and revolves all around the famous and young Captain Kirk.What exactly has happened in the Captain's rooms on the Enterprise? Why has there been found the body of a woman - literally torn to shreds? It'll be difficult to get information out of the Captain; and even more difficult to get them out of his staff, it seems. They're tightly knit and don't make things easy for the Vulcan.

However, Spock not only has to worry the mysterious case - he also needs to keep his wits about him in a world that just doesn't seem to have a place for him. And why - oh why - did he choose just now to fall in love?!

This story is supposed to run parallel to other stories - something that can help me get my mind back on track if I need to write something vastly different.

The depiction of the characters - at least Spock - is quite different from what I usually do. Spock has a good side helping of mirror!Spock, but I hope it will be logical in the course of the story why he's the way he is^^

It is hard to understand humans. They are disturbingly flighty creatures, prone to outbursts of extreme emotion and making illogical decisions. In the sober light of the ship of the Enterprise, Spock knew he originally had not been supposed to find those creatures so fascinating. However, he also knew that he had never been supposed to be stuffed full of cold electronics and blinking, artificial lamps. It was very hard to remain detached and professional when confronted with those delightfully lighthearted and diligent creatures. Or maybe his straying thoughts were a product of his increasing fascination with the charismatic - and utterly befuddling - Captain of the vessel.

Life certainly never got boring on board the ship - that was a given fact.

Especially not when one vicious, vermin-like alien kept appearing on their radar, leading them on a bloody chase through the galaxy; playing with them like they were nothing more than his puppets.

Which, in all honesty... they probably were.
