In the Classic episode "Immunity Syndrome," Spock felt the death of 400 Vulcans on a nearby ship so strongly that McCoy had to escort him off of the bridge. When the Narada destroyed Vulcan, billions died. There have to be long-term, serious consequences to that for the surviving Vulcans, and especially for Spock, who shipped off with the Enterprise almost right away. It just might take a while to show.

Jim has always been drawn to his first officer in a way that defies his previous experience, but insists he’s never been in love. Spock doesn’t understand the emotional response he has to his captain, relying on a definition that doesn’t quite fit. The perception and realization of love is interpreted through the ending of one relationship and the beginning of another.

this society that spock and kirk are trapped in is greatly disturbing and chilling. Poor Spock and his role as an esne. To just stand there and let people beat the hell out of you. Of course Spock isn't going to be okay with that! I feel for both of them and I love how the mystery and the role of the people in this role is slowly inveiled. It shocks me every chapter. LOVING this story Cate!! It's one of my favorites so far because I enjoy dark things.

I love the way you write Spock, Cate. His thought processes, even in the face of danger and angst is spot on. It's so hard to capture that Vulcan logic in the midst of panic and self-preservation, but you do it flawlessly. Very, very amazing chapter, and I'm eagerly awaiting the next one!!

AHHHh this chapter!! You can't leave it there!!! Again, I loved Jim's speech to the people, despite Eloida the bitch coming up and just raining on everyones parade. this chapter was perfection!!! Loved the interaction between eloida and jim, because I really hated her, and you managed to actually get me to sympathize with her. I love this aftermath after all of this that jim and spock have been through! stunning!!

I loved Spock's perservearance throughout this chapter, how he was holding on despite exhaustion and injuries bringing him down. How it all built to that moment on the bridge when the scanning started. Awesome chapter!!!!
