I love to write, and I have been attempting to hone my craft for years, all while training to be a child therapist (which should become a reality within the year). I have been writing fan fiction on and off for several years as both a stress relief and a way below inject good stories into a normally insane coterie. Thankfully, the Star Trek fandom and it's fine legacy has given me much inspiration and enjoyment over the past months, and my motivation to write for it is mainly an effort to give something back. The story I am currently writing is Spock/McCoy, which I want to complete before posting (and if there is a beta out there who would like to take me on, let me know). However, I am in the planning stages of a Kirk/Spock story, which I hope to get posted before I get my new internship started.

I just finished this story, and I must say it is one of the best Reboot stories I have ever read, as well as one of the best mpreg stories I have ever read.

Part of me was hoping the baby was going to be a boy, but for some reason it feels weird to have a male child be produced in mpregs.  Have written and read several, and I cannot bring myself to buy it when I see a male child. I guess it's one of those fandom mysteries.

The development of the Kirk/Spock relationship was just slow enough to be satisfying when they came together. I hate stories where they come together I credibly quickly, both in TOS and Reboot. In this story, it felt organic and real, which made the first kiss all the more touching.

Your characterizations of the boys, as well as the "villains" are perfect. I have read several stories lately were the bad guys in stories (family members or no) are incredibly one dimensional to the point of annoyance, and yet whenever i try to bring this up, suddenly I'm the bad guy (Sorry, I'm bitter). I hate homophobia and xenophobia as much as anybody, but it seemed like all the conflict in these stories came from a version of these beliefs which does not exist outside of Westboro Baptist Church. In short, I loved how you characterized Spock's family and T'Pring, making them complex so I can understand their objections. Honestly, if I were Spock's father, I would have some consternation as well. Spock will likely outlive Kirk by more than a century, and that is a long time to endure such pain.

Thank you for this story. I will have to set aside time to read your others.

Fantastic chapter! My heart hurt hearing Spock and Jm would not have a child, although based on the future, I already knew it wasn't happening. I still hurt for McCoy, although it looks like he will have peace with what happened despite his memories. Keep it up!

Also, I realized the other day that you wrote the first BTVS story I ever read, called Still Here. Its a small world after all.

Thanks! :) Wow, lol, that was a while back now. Small world indeed; I often find it quite fascinating. :) Though now I feel bad again because I never exactly finished that story, sorry...!

Man oh man. I loved this chapter, particularly the speech from Kirk at the end. It is reminicent of a line from the Katie Herzig song "Wish You Well" that always gets me. It goes "The only reason my heart beats is 'cause you showed it how." The entire song could definitely be reflected in that heart-wrenching conversation at the end between McCoy and Spock.  McCoy taught Spock how to love, but he will not get to reap the benefits of that. The reason I bring it up is because it is my current favorite song, and the parallel made me excited.

It looks like the story is wrapping up. I can't wait to see the final resolution. I might have said this in my last review, but I always love stories where a happy ending is not in the cards. This makes the story less predictable and more emotionlly effective. This was my first K/S story and it is still one of my favorites.

This was my reaction at your last response: "Oooooh....(face falls).....oh." I think I know how the ending might go, even though it still breaks my heart.

I'm glad this chapter allowed us to see McCoy realizing what he has in his two friends, and that his feelings don't change anything. This story makes me happy in so many ways.

Author's Response:

Thanks so much! I'm so glad the story is making people happy. Also, just because I'm "basically" following canon and am not changing the canon scenes dosn't mean I don't have a surprise or two up my sleeve though. ;)

(Though now that I think about it Jim's level of knowledge about Sybok would have to be a little different in this world's situation, buuuut, that's a minor detail. Eh. Crap now I have write that scene, don't I? :P)

Of all the Spock-adopts-Jim stories/series, this has to be my favorite. It is so full of warmth and beauty, and I definitely end up rooting for their family in the end. I actually work quite a bit with kids in state custody right now. I think this is as close to reality as I have seen in fan fiction or even in media (including the abduction). Granted, it's not perfect, but there is dramatic license to think about. I am glad you are continuing with another story. I can't wait to get into that one.

Author's Response:

Wow! Your review had me grinning all day long! :) Floating on a cloud! I drew from my own childhood experiences. Though I was not abused in any way that Child and Family Services would act on, I was emotionally neglected. It was a bit like being raised by landlords if you know what I mean. They made sure I had everything I needed, but there was no emotional connection or guidance, compounded by undeveloped social skills which isolated me further. So emotionally, I experienced much of what Jim did, without physical abuse or even much verbal abuse really, it was more what they didn't do than what they did do. Four years ago, I found a (not professional) mentor who, unlike her predecessors, was stubborn and mentally and emotionally resilient and savvy enough to coach me into being a happy, healthy adult. (she might give Spock a run for his money in stubbornness lol!) Now I realize my parents do care in their own way and did the best they could, but they believe that passing on their religion is more important than learning any life skills or teaching their kids how to be happy. Despite my mentor's recent absence from my life, I have come to terms with having no parental bond with anyone. Still, it is fun to explore it with Spock. :) Glad you are along for the ride! It's cool that you have a career that could make a difference in troubled kids' lives. :) Awesome!

Curse you for making me cry.  This story was amazing, in that it led us through a long and painful journey which, like far too many journeys, end sadly. It is so much like Kirk to think he had all the time in the world, when everything can change in an instant. You would think he'd learn his lesson after Spock's death due to Khan, but he does not to both their detriment. I honestly can see why you chose to end it sadly, because a happy ending would have felt tacked on and forced, particularly if you are trying to stick to canon. Spock wearing Kirks ring for the rest of his days would complete the picture. Great job, and looking forward to whatever you have for us in the future.

I discovered this story recently, and I absolutely love it. There are not a whole lot of fics out there where Kirk and Spock have a slowly progressing relationship, which to a romantic like me is more realistic. They usually jump into bed and proclaim their love and that's that. I like to watch development. Thank you for your diligence and I can't wait to see the conclusion.

Author's Response:

I just started posting this story at the end of last month so it is moving along pretty well.  I'm glad you found it and are enjoying it.  As for the "slowly progressing relationship", this was the way I was raised, and I think it is a more mature, cautious way to develop relationships than a roll in the hay.  That's just my opinion, of course, for what it's worth.  There are a few more chapters to come so I hope you will continue to enjoy it.  Thanks.

I really loved Strength, and I'm so glad you made a sequel. It sounds like its going to be action-packed. I'm curious how people whom English is their second language can write so well (mainly because I'm a stupid American who is too lazy to learn an new language). The angst from the attack, and the fact love is not a quick fix makes this all the more intriguing. Now that I have heard the Vulcan legend, I am even more intrigued how this involves our boys. Keep it up to the end!

Author's Response:

huhuu, thanks for the review :)

I'm glad you liked Strength and stick with the sequel as well <3 I was a little unsure as to how many people would like to read the sequel after so much time has gone by, but it seems there are still some that remember it well. That is really humbling! I still make many mistakes; I often know myself that some passages are really rough structure-wise, but sometimes it just does not want to come out the way I like it to and I just have to move on and past that point >.o ... I familiarized myself with English, because of a very selfish reason: I simply wanted to read more fanfiction LOL and there is simply way more English information on the net, so ... yeah :)

I like stories in which love is the 'ultimate salvation', because I like to squee just like the next guy/gal; but I find that making things more difficult - more gritty - is often more interesting in long stories. There would simply be no conflict if all that was to do was for one of the characters to hug the other and everything is hunky-dory. (and I'm such a sucker for angst and hurt/comfort, you wouldn't believe it XD)

sadly I haven't had much time the past days, especially with the other story running parallel, but today seems a good day to write and if you and I are lucky, you'll have a new chapter tomorrow :)

cheers!

This story is fantastic! It is well-written, suspenseful, and excellently plotted. I am eager for Jim and the others to find out about Spock's heritage, and I am curious as to whether Vulcan would help Earth or not. Considering how loose Kirk was with the Prime Directive on TOS, I can only imagine Spock will make a similar policy here, especially if there has been a First Contact situation in the past which stunted Earth's development. Of course, I am eager for the love story to get underway. The dynamics are amazing, and this AU presents such wonderful oppurtunities for the growing relationship. Also, I hope McCoy finds Joanna somehow. As in every universe, I love him to death. I can't wait for your next update.

I like this so far!

As for a prompt, I have had a plot bunny in my head for months about a telepathic attack on Jim where he is mentally stuck in Tarsus, and Spock Prime has to get him out since he is most familiar with his mind (which leads to romance). In your story, it could be Spock Prime who gets attacked (lets face it, Jim has suffered enough) and is stuck in a hellish period in his life (probably moments involving Kirk Prime, but I'll leave that up to you). Sarek and T'Pau then need to enlist younger Spock's help since they are of the same mind. Maybe that could segue way into a realization of his origins by Jim.

Speaking of which, there has to be a point where Jim discovers relationship between his older self and Spock Prime. It would definitely cause conflict, but it also has to come at a point where they trust each other enough to know there was no sexual undertones. Stiil, I cannot imagine Jim having positive feelings about it at first. I was a bit surprised McCoy accepted it so readily (although I can't really remember if he knows about the romantic aspect or not).

Keep up the great work!

Author's Response:

Lol, yeah, Jim has suffered enough! Though I feel it is unrealistic to have him skipping the metaphorical rainbows at this point, I do plan to have things pleasant for him for awhile. :) Spock is keeping his identity from Jim for two main reasons: he doesn't want Jim to be worrying about Nero on top of everything else, and he doesn't want Jim to think is he merely being loved for who he looks like. His reasons for not saying anything to young Spock are more nebulous; mostly he's concerned about interference I think. (My characters have minds of their own. Half the time they don't cooperate with what I want them to do) So I planned on having Spock tell Jim about Nero when he turned 18, since he'd be moving out and stuff. And I did plan on having young Spock find out first about everything, but not the specifics of how. I was thinking vaguely of him entering the Jellyfish, but your way might be better. I shall think on it. :) As far as McCoy, I did leave things rather vague, didn't I? He received quite the information dump, then got distracted afterwards, plus Spock mostly blocked that part of their relationship from him. But, bits did leak through, enough for McCoy to piece together later, if he cares to. And he will, lol.  Thank you for reviewing!

The worst part about seeing Into Darkness opening day was that I had to wait a couple months for some decent fan fiction to come out about it (it takes a while for plot bunnies to breed, then quality writing to take place, etc). So far, this is my favorite long-form fic. Even though it's only three chapters in right now, I can see the writing on the wall of a fantastic story. The concept is compelling, and a firm foundation is being laid for potential romance. I can see Spock's illogic showing as he urges McCoy to keep Kirk on the ship. A Captain who a has to be restrained by his first officer every time he gets pissed would not inspire confidence in me. However, this is bound to create great drama. Please update soon!

I have an illogical adoration of MPreg fics, so you can imagine my excitement when I saw this new one. The problem is that so many of them are way too fluffy, or the method of impregnation is too implausible to stomach (I know mpreg itself is implausible, but I like it better when they don't give an explanation or use the generic alien technology fallback, like the prompt suggests). From the writing so far, I can tell its not gonna be one of those. Your pace flows well and the characters are very true to themselves. I do like how the unrequited love is getting physically painful for him, which will bring satisfaction when it comes to fruition. Personally, I like it better when Spock takes on the child, but that does not mean I don't love Kirk getting motherly. In short, I'm hooked and eagerly awaiting your next update.

I do have a suggestion, though. There might be another story which uses the same prompt on this site (or it might have been your story posted elsewhere, I'm not sure). I think two stories from one prompt is not a bad thing, but I would suggest looking at that one if you have not already. There are literally a million different directions to go with this concept, and I don't want you getting stuck in a repeat performance. I know with me, personally, it is difficult to look at stories which are similar to those I've written. I always seem to think the other guy did it better than me. However, it's helpful for not "flooding the marketplace" so to speak.

I am eagerly awaiting your next update.

Thank you for that review. To respond to your suggention, Yes, i have seen the story that responds to this prompt. i admit that reading it has given me a few biases, that is why i have decided to delay responding to the prompt...until this story is complete, that is. though your suggestion has enlightened me. i have taken it as a reminder for future projects.

As a lover of McCoy and any story he's involved in, I thank you for this fantastic story. It is beautiful in its simplicity and emotion. Although its sad, its also extremely hopeful and realistic. I will admit, though, I am not very familiar with Miss Patsy Cline. I know who she is, but not her music as much. That said, her songs appear to reflect this story perfectly.

Author's Response:

Thank you for your kind words!

Now RUN, don't walk, to Google and search for the songs I've mentioned!  Once you've heard Patsy, your life will never be the same!  "Faded Love" will probably make you cry!
