I came reread this again tonight.  The characters are perfect.  I can feel Jim's pain.  Spock's confusion.  Bones pain too at being left out.  It all works to well.  And I love the literal references back to the beginning.  It reminded me of why I fell in live with Spock also. My fav being:"When the transporter devided me into two people,  you said that if you seemed insensitive to what I was going throgh, it was the way you were.  Anyone truly unaware would never have thought to say that."

“In fact he knew damn little of what was happening to Spock at all.” I love that you elaborated on the bitterness and pain Jim felt toward Spock’ condition in that movie. Well done.

I read this story with a great deal of pleasure.  It reminded me so much of that period when the movies were coming out and there was such wonder and anticipation for the series.  This is quite lovely and heartbreaking all at the same time - the incomplete Vulcan, the yearning captain, the distane between them.  That point from "Jim.  Your name is Jim" to the end of The Voyage Home is some of my fondest Trek memories, and you have filled in the blanks beautifully.  Thanks!

I really enjoyed this! Thank you for sharing it. This Kirk rings very true to me, and the narrative flows effortlessly around the movie.
