I love this! I've always thought Scotty and Spock had a great relationship - Scotty knows Spock isn't human and doesn't expect him to act like one. I love this picture of a young, raw Spock before Jim comes along and turns Spock's universe rightside up. Please update again VERY soon!
I'm glad you liked this so far! I've always liked their relationship - Scotty was the only person who didn't practically attack Spock in 'The Galileo Seven', and I've always found that interesting, too - and I always imagine that, since they knew each other well before the rest of the crew showed up, there would have to be some sort of interesting history there. I really like this fic as it captures why Scotty became chief engineer and how Spock was different pre Jim's arrival. but best of all it's a WIP so hopefully we get to see what came next
Scotty will definitely have a recurring place in this fic! I'm glad you liked this so far, thank you for commenting :)

This is very powerful and insightful - a reminder in particular, of what Spock is/was like without the influence of James Kirk. Pike tries very hard to befriend and mentor him to no avail, but it seems like Spock wasn't ready for that, mentally, at that time. He had to take a few hard knocks from life to finally get in that place where he was receptive to Jim's friendship.
I love the incident at the beginning between Sarek and Amanda - Amanda was right, of course. Had she prevailed, maybe Spock's future crewmembers would have survived because Spock would have acted.
I also enjoyed the introduction of Montgomery Scott - so warm and accepting - he'll be there if Spock needs him and he'll leave him alone if Spock wishes to be alone. I think the Spock/Scott chemistry is one of the more overlooked aspects in fandom. The two do amazing things together - saving combined forces to save the ship by pulling off impossible repairs in a very short period of time.
Very well done!
I'm glad you enjoyed this! My interpretation of Pike is that he was a good captain in general and a good man, but in regards to Spock probably wasn't ideal as a potential friend (or role-model, for that matter). And while Spock and Scotty's friendship is kind of quiet and easy to overlook I think there's some comfortable history there, and it's also easy to forget that they worked together much longer than anyone else on the Enterprise.
