This is a really great story.Your spock is definitly TOS Spock and he acted what he would be.Although he was a best science officer in the universe, he is not a superman nor wizard, he tried to rescue Kirk (oh,yes, he was definitly TOS Kirk)in a very realistic manner. The way Spock investigated what really happend was really good.If I had a Time machine, I would go back 48yeas ago and show this stoy to Mr Roddenberry. He would employ you as a scenario writer! Thank you very much for sharing such a wonderful story.
Thank you, I'm glad you think so! It was interesting to explore how they'd react to a situation like this. I can't take all the credit for the idea, though - as I said, it was inspired by an episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

This was a great story, and true TOS-style. I loved the subtle intimacy between the two friends. Theirs is truly a relationship of trust and loyalty and embraces friendship and brotherhood. And what an interesting concept-I admire Ellison for giving up his life, in the end. Would he have perceived living twenty-two years of experiences and successes and failures to get him to the point where he enters this story? If he had, it would be interesting to contemplate if his own building guilt would have contributed to his decision as well as the impending loss of life. I wonder what Ellison was thinking as Spock confronted him, and really what his relationship with his XO was in the alternate reality-if they were friends, and if Spock somehow taught him a lesson about self-sacrifice. Well done! -Cate
Thank you! I've never written a gen/plotty story this long before, so it's good to know it worked for you. I find Kirk and Spock's friendship almost as fascinating as a romantic/sexual relationship between them, and it was nice to be able to explore that with this fic. As for Ellison, I think he did feel guilty about taking Kirk's place, and that that contributed to his decision. It's interesting because the decision to agree to the switch and the decision to take it back are both very human choices, but in very different ways.

A breathtaking story, and it would make a wonderful episode! Besides, it's one of the most intriguing explorations of the Tarsus theme I have ever read. It also reminded me somewhat of a TOS novel called 'Killing Time', with changing of the universe and Kirk being at the point of divergence.
Thank you! It was interesting to explore the effect one person can have on a timeline, especially if that person is Kirk.
