Good to re read things. In my cannon Chapel and Spock’s situation changes when she holds his Katra and understands his Perspective. (Not women or Kirk especially either is possible ) There is some beta cannon that suggests Spock sponsored her entry to MD training. To me that is what he discovered in the Katra exchange.

Christine strikes me in this story as someone who thinks Spock should be grateful to have her attention and who doesn't realize that he's completely out of her league. She's this dorky, nerdy woman who takes Spock for a dorky, socially-isolated guy. Oh, sure he's Vulcan, but really, he's a socially awkward misfit whose head should turn right around now that a girl is taking an interest in him. She doesn't get that he acts that way because he chooses to and that he doesn't have a girlfriend because he finds most human women uninteresting.
It was that line you wrote about Kirk that tipped me off. He could have anyone, why is he coming after my guy, she thinks. In other words, he should be dating another attractive, popular, shallow peer, the sort of person she knows she would never have a chance with (not honestly). Having a rival she can't hold a candle to dashes all her plans.
I never saw Chapel this way before, but I think you are right. She reacted quite violently to the presence of the attractive female android in Korby's lab. She knows she's not a "ten" and is looking for a man who doesn't have the greatest dating options and is willing to settle. How many women would faithfully wait out the lonely, and apparently penniless research life (actually, she didn't exactly wait... she kept her job while still hoping to hear from him some good news)? I think this is what she is thinking. It's kind of calculating.
I've never quite understood S/Ch in that if you watch the show the whole point is that Spock is never, ever going to reciprocate. The closest he ever comes is a few moments when he's not incredibly RUDE to her. Chapel's crush on Spock is played as some sort of (pre-workplace sexual harassment policy) joke. K/S as canon has issues because both of them are carrying on with women during the series, but at least their intimacy was intentional, even if it wasn't meant to be taken as sexual. S/Ch? Why would you fight for that?
...I'm not really sure how to reply to this. I mean, I'm glad you liked the fic, but the way you're reading it is really not what I intended. I like Chapel. I was trying to show her as vaguely sympathetic, not cold and calculating. To be honest, the only part of your review I agree with is the part about Spock/Chapel being kind of baffling.
