Mmh I too feel there are plot holes. Why was Spock being hot under the collar rubbing his neck. Surely if the captain was dead the Transporter chief would say so as command would have to be transferred. Or bearing in mind the Charlie X episode (was Charlie filmed before man trap, perhaps Spock and Uhura has been of she was trying to be an item and Kirk had ousted her or she was annoyed Jim got more attention.

However I don't like your beating up Uhura for flirting considering Kirk and Spock do so all the time and only marginally less obviously. As for harassment in the bridge Yeoman Rand and Spock take the biscuit.

I think maybe they were just trying on effects for size. "Red alert" is so much clearer than "general quarters",no? In fact a lot of the more military-sounding and -looking stuff gradually faded away--like the barking of orders and die-hard terms like "all hands". I thought the woozy-stun setting was cool--pity it didn't last, would have made for some comical scenes.

At the beginning Spock seems to have to be the Heavy..."truth serum", unsmiling, double-fisted blows, etc, but much can be excused on the grounds of Extreme Loyalty. (By "Charlie X the sardonic begins to come through however, when the Three discuss Charlie's need for a "father figure.)

Iza Uhura fans--but it irks me when they make her out to be a shrinking African violet. I like her comeback, though ("I'm not surprised!").

Anyway, I still think they were trying to flesh out the characters.

This was pretty interesting.  Obviously most of the little oddities such as the alarm announcements and so forth can be explained away simply by the fact that the show was brand new and nobody really knew what they were doing... how to explain it in PLOT terms is a bit harder (quite a lot harder!) and I'm not even going to try and begin now!  As the Uhura stuff, I remember that when I watched this episode I interpreted her and Spock's interaction completely differently, but don't actually remember how...  I know that makes for a really rubbish comment, so I'll have to go and watch the episode again some time!  Anyways, I always like these little essay-things of yours, even though I often don't agree :)
