... I am wishing to marry you, do you have any objection ? Because I can already picture the oh-so-wonderful slashy talks we'll have until death do us part.

You are one clever and talented girl, missey.

I agree the novelization is sooo worth reading if you're looking for this stuff. According to it, it is indeed Jim's voice that calls him back, and is exactly what she is noticing when she reaches into Spock's mind. Among the several other things mentioned in other reviews. And stuff like Spock asking if McCoy could leave before they have that talk in the officer's lounge (which totally must mean he knows his and Jim's first talk will include inevitably very personal matters). And Kirk saying -- without any sort of segue or prompt, so it's implicit -- before Spock leaves that meeting that "this was painful for me too". I mean, COME ON. YAY FOR CANON.

Actually, I have a file of it; if you want it, just drop me a line.

Find a copy of the TMP novelization. Read it. It's full of Kirk/Spock goodness, it's even more slashy than the movie, if you can believe me. There's not only the first appearance of the word T'hy'la and the famous footnote by Admiral Kirk that never denied anything, but there's also little jewels like Spock, right before the Kholinar, thinking: "Good bye, Jim, never after this will I think of you and your name...t'hy'la...". Or McCoy acknowledging that these two have a telepathic bond that reaches across the stars (bonded, anyone?) or the pure pure beautifl jewel where Jim thinks about their friendship, so full of affection and loyalty that Vulcan poets said it was stronger than pon farr. No kidding. Vulcan poets singing about K/S being better than sex after a seven year drought. It's black on white, written by Gene Roddenberry, which makes it CANON. K/S is better than sex, my friends!

(sorry for lack of good quotes, I read the French translation since the English version is impossible to find over here.)

Most of Trek seems to revolve around Jim and Spock (and their relationship). I totally agree with your analysis of the situation. There's too much obvious love between those two to ever pass off as "just friends". It's almost a living, breathing thing. So beautiful.

Excellent, well done Laura.  We can wish and wish that the rest of the five year mission had been aired.  But alas that was not the case, so we speculate and I do agree with you.  That look that Jim gives him on the bridge is not a look of just friendship he is almost ready to jump over the railings to see him.  A good example of this...someone told me that they had brought a friend to see the TMP who had never heard of star trek.  As the friend was watching that scene appeared where Jim says SPOCK....the look that Jim gives Spock and the way Spock looked at Jim.  You know what that person said.  the person said "You never told me that these two were lovers."  From what did she that......a mere glance and a word....AMAZING...that is what sums up Jim's and Spock's relationship.

That's incredible!
