Oh wow, that was amazing! I usually like 5+1 stories a lot, but this one was a special treat. A++
Author's Response: Thank you, dear, and I'm glad you enjoyed! It is my eternal goal to get a good grade on these things. :DDD

Oh, I like this a lot! I was sort of afraid this would show Jim being propositioned by one officer after another and expected to skim it until we got to the Spock part; instead you provide us with 5 well fleshed-out officer characters, each of them complete with background, personality, preconceived ideas and life experience. They felt real, and the relationship each of them has with Jim is totally unique. I loved the different point of views they provided on Jim, what they thought of him and how meeting the man changed their mind, see them succomb to his charm, and see a bit of the evolution of Jim's odyssey to or on the Enterprise through them. I'm not sure which is my favorite. I like that Pike had the integrity never to try anything with Jim when he was a model for Jin and Kirk might have been more vulnerable to him. I liked learning more about Decker, and see him recognize in Jim that arrogance and commanding presence of a starship captain - and how he cursed mentally when he realized the damn cadet was out of bounds and knew it :-D But maybe I liked Wesley best because it felt more personal, because we learned more about HIS painful past experiences, and because he reached out to Jim out of sheer sympathy. At the end of his vignette, even though he nearly cheated on his wife with Jim, which I normally condemn vigorously, I truly felt for him and his plight, and I wanted ot give him a hug. :) Plus, he gave us the best glimpse of Spock of the first half.
As for the Spock half, I wish we could have seen more of the friendship between him and Jim, but I understand the format of the story was limitating for that. I did get a very good sense of Jim's longing for his first officer, and a good hint of Spock's feelings through his panick and gentleness during the Wesley vignette. I loved how Spock figured out his captain's feelings because of Jim's jealousy :-D Took him a while, but then he's a Vulcan and at least he did get there in the end :). The "confrontation" scene was a thing of beauty. When Jim asked how high Spock was aiming if the sky wasn't enough, and Spock looked up at him from so close and said "the stars", I melted into a puddle of goo. And then he said "forgive me, was I being too subtle?" and I bursted out laughing. I loved seeing them coming together. Your character voices were all excellent, Kirk and Spock included. I wish we could see that more often.
Oh, and the Sickbay scene with Bones was nicely done too. :)
Author's Response: I have no words for how happy your review has made me. :) I've always liked 5+1 stories, but you're very right, normally they don't have quite the same length or detail as a single story, and that makes this one a very strange beast. I am glad that the attempts at rounding out the minor characters were appreciated, and I understand perfectly; normally I like more K/S friendship in my stories too. Ah, the beauty of formatting! :DD Thanks for reading, and I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

I really liked reading this. I found the idea of Jim being judged so harshly by everyone nicely angsty. And then having to grow up and act mature while he secretly dreaded the day Spock left him for a woman was bittersweet. Of course I adore Spock putting everything together and getting Jim to sort of confess, although his confession was of the decidedly non-verbal kind. Nicely done.
Author's Response: Thank you very much, and I'm glad you enjoyed. I gotta say, I think I fail at meme requests--they always seem to take on a life of their own. :)

Nice! :) I like 5+1s and this was an enjoyable premise. The +1 was awesome! So yummy and lemony. :) Well-done!
Author's Response: Thank you very much for reading, and I'm glad you enjoyed! Personally, I always found 5+1s easier to write (they kind of force you to have an outline.) XD
