I've had this story bookmarked amongst my favourites for ages. It definitely deserves more reviews! I found myself weeping for them all - you captured the poignancy and bittersweet process of aging and mortality beautifully.
I also love the way you depict in this fic the dynamics of Kirk and Spock's inner life, and the intensity and preciousness of a bond that doesn't require words.
Heartrending and angsty but such an intensely good read. Thankyou.

Aw, that was gorgeous. How does this only have 2 reviews!? I loved it, anyway. Nice and angsty, and I love the way you worked McCoy into the story, with his own lost love and being so frustrated and worried for them.

Day-um, this was *intense*. Nicely done medical stuff, too -- 'twas my original field many years back and if badly done will ruin a story quicker than anything. But this all rings true, from the fear and helplessness they all felt, to the complications Spock suffered and all the stuff he had to go thru to get better. And that McCoy was right there for both of them, and that by the end all three were closer again, more like they used to be before Bones was widowed.
There have been three deaths in my family this year in quite fast succession, and I must say congratulations to you for so very cleanly and clearly portraying what goes thru one's mind in such situations, when all one can do is sit and wait and trust in the skill and kindness of strangers. I was very afraid of how this might end, and most relieved to see how it did.

I can't believe mine is the first (typed) review of this story! It was immensely engaging, rich in both description and dialogue, and so true to the characters. Jim's emotions are particularly powerful; we see his feelings and thoughts run a terrifically complex range as he faces a fearful crisis with his life partner. This is one of the most heartfelt, vivid "established relationship" stories I have ever had the privilege to read, and I usually love "first time" tales a lot more! Very, very well done. :)
