Based on this lovely prompt: Winona Kirk was once a feisty career-minded cadet with a love of engineering and no plans to settle down. A deeper relationship with her best friend George Kirk was a temptation she wouldn’t allow herself. Then one Christmas George won her over with a series of 12 days of letters and gifts which proved how well he knew her and how deep his feelings were. He kept up the tradition of writing a letter to Winona every Christmas. Winona discovers her son’s feelings for Spock (on Thanksgiving visit?) and decides it’s the perfect time to give Jim his dad’s letters. Jim is thrilled to learn about George through his letters and inspired to follow his example in order to woo an oblivious Spock. This could be Academy era AU or set aboard Enterprise.
