What a lovely present to open!  I beg your pardon, but the summary really doesn't do it justice.  After reading only a few paragraphs, you had me hooked and I devoured the rest.  I'm very glad that I found it after it was finished, because I don't think I could've waited for updates.  Even though I've come to the end, I still hunger for more; have you considered a sequel?  I would love to see more of Jim helping his mate navigate the social soup that is being part of a crew, Spock integrating his emotions with his Vulcan logic and all of the interesting things that the universe or fate likes to cook up to torture heroes.  Thanks for sharing!

The Squire of Eros by aldora89 Rated: ADULT (NC-17) starstarstarstarstar [Reviews - 13]
Summary:

An old nemesis pays a social call to the Enterprise just in time for the annual Valentine's Day party.  On this occasion it's Spock who draws the brunt force of his irritating personality.  But when his holiday-inspired antics turn dangerous, it's up to the Captain and crew to take him down, and Jim is forced to confront his long-evaded desires regarding his first officer. (Written for the LJ K/S Valentine's meme.  Based loosely on prompt #31.)

Involves an attempt at a plot, a foppish villain, and copious amounts of TOS nerdery.

What a fun fic you have served up!  I could actually hear William Campbell in my head as if he were doing a voice over - you know you've got your character down when a reader tells you that.  I think Jim and Spock owe Trelane a huge thank you, because goodness knows if they'd ever gotten together without it - Vulcan poetry, regardless.  And thanks to the visual at the end, I'm sure I know the heart-shaped object that the captain will be contemplating when Spock is checking out his viewer.  Enjoyed it immensely and thank you for sharing :)

Author's Response: Awww, I'm very glad to hear you say that! I tried very hard to channel that obnoxious, flamboyant voice when I wrote (which ended up being WAY too much fun). And how could I resist taking a stab at that ridiculous science station setup? ;D Thank you for commenting!

Is this the prequel to rain? I enjoyed both on their own, but they do seem to go together - kind of like the two slices of bread in a sandwich. Now we just need the filling . . . *whistles wistfully, staring off into the sunset*

Author's Response:

Sorry to disappoint, but Rain and Valediction are from two completely separate ‘verses. I picture Rain to be a glimpse at the aftermath of a scouting/diplomatic mission gone terribly awry, and Valediction to be a look at the inevitable consequence of the Klingons being in possession of 24th century technology for nearly three decades (beyond it being a deliberate bait and switch).

In all likelihood, I will return to these two ‘verses for future one-shots, but as of this moment I don’t have anything in the works.

Thank you for reading them both and reviewing :)

This is so good, but until you update, I'm left with a bleeding and unconsious Spock decorating the floor of sickbay, McCoy proposing/blackmailing (you say potato and I say potahto) Sarek and a seriously pissed off Captain Kirk hunting the corridors for his escaped virgin Vulcan.  It's going to drive me CRAZY!  I hope your muse is back on duty, otherwise we may just have to get Chekov to whip out that agonizer he likes so much and use a little persuasion.

Author's Response:

Thrilled you are enjoying so far!  Thanks for leaving feedback!  Spock is not unconscious, however, just in pain and beaten.  McCoy's proposition hasn't been accepted, etiher, so things are at an impasse there, true.  Kirk is more mad at himself for underestimating his captive.  I'm working slowly on the next chapter now.  It's looking to be on the long side so far.  Lots to cover in it.  And it you think Chekov likes the agonizer, you have yet to meet its biggest fan...but you will next chapter.  Hope to hear from you again.  Thanks!  ~ RK

I’ve made some very minor changes from the zine version.

Long before Witness, there was a movie called The Angel And The Badman (1947 John Wayne/Gail Russell) Where a gunslinger is saved by a Quaker. With the wild west feeling of your desert, saloon and the rough miners, your story remind me a lot more of this movie. I enjoyed it very much, I only missed Spock's speech to Stonn about 'having is not always as pleasing a thing as wanting.' Thank you for sharing!

Author's Response: I'll have to see if I can find this movie. I'm glad you enjoyed the story. Thanks so much for your comments, Arcadii.

Now Done!!! Happy Ending here!!!!

This is in response to 'Make This Have a Happy Ending' by vicktblueeyez. The challenge goes like this:

Challenge: Make this sad prompt have a happy ending. (not my prompt, belongs to anon at the kink meme)

Difficulty: Very

Prompt: Kirk/character of anon's choice are in a relationship the whole crew knows about and accepts. Then, Kirk gets top!secret-super!classified orders from Starfleet basically forcing him to seduce a traitor/spy to get information for Starfleet. [OR Kirk's orders force him to gain trust from the traitor/spy, so Kirk is all friendly and the traitor/spy takes advantage of Kirk.] Kirk follows orders/is forced but he's horrified, disgusted, and seriously messed up mentally by the encounter. Instead of comforting him or trying to understand Kirk's side, his significant other dumps him for cheating and the crew blames/is nasty to Kirk, since they aren't privy to Starfleet’s orders. Much angst ensues!

Keyword: Redemption

I've seen many takes on this prompt, all seeming to end sad which is why I haven't read them. Sad as in a broken Kirk, a broken relationship and K/S not getting back together. Mostly because Spock never found out...or he did but it was too late (Kirk ended up with Bones). I find it interesting that so many think a happy ending cannot be done. Kirk didn't believe in no-win scenarios and he didn't settle for the impossible. Instead of thinking in the box, he not only thought outside of the box but reshaped it. Saying something couldn't be done made him want to do whatever it was, even more. Yet, many feel that this prompt can only end in one way, heartbreak and it can only be written if the characters were extremely ooc. I think that is BS. A good author can make one believe in anything. They can take something old, already done and reshape it. The challenge here is to reshape this prompt and for that, you have to have the Kirk mentality and be as equally stubborn.

Stuff I would like to see but not required:

-A groveling and tortured Spock. Tortured as in self loathing. Kirk being all "fuck u, you didn't trust me, abandoned me, don't talk to me" and Spock maybe falling to his knees crying? "I have wronged you t’hy’la in ways you/I cannot imagine. I'm so sorry."

-Super awesome dramatic make up sex somewhere down the line is mandatory. Pretty please?

-Spock has to find out somehow. Kirk left and Spock is clearing the Captain's computer maybe? Kirk thinking his hacker skills is all that leaves the file there thinking it won't be found? Maybe Spock overhears a secret conversation from Starfleet officials? Maybe Spock and crew are on an away mission some angry person is all "I'll never forgive him for using me for information! I thought he loved me but he was only pretending to follow orders!" Spock, "What orders?" Angry person, "Oh you didn't know?"

-Big time angst. Things like K/S seeing each other from across the room. Accidental touching. Something with big time tension.

All is forgiven and it ends HAPPILY aka with Kirk/Spock together.

I hope this lets me work out some demons so I can go back to my happy stories. Here we go....

I'm going out on a huge limb here, because like Vickeybleyez, I require a happy ending and the summary sounds very dangerous!  I freely admit that I cheat and read the last page of a book or story if I don't think it's going to have my type of ending (I didn't here, though).  I don't ask for a fairy tale . . . angst is ok, what would life be without it?, but no permanent death and the two leads must end up together; I think that life is good enough at churning out tear-jerkers without reading them for entertainment!  This isn't my first time sampling your stories, so I really don't think I'm in danger of being disappointed.  Now without further ado, onto the next chapter.

I don't think they should execute the bastard, that'd be too easy on him.  For what he did, he deserves a life sentence in the worst prison left in federation space - where he'll not only earn the epithet of cocksuker, but butt-monkey as well.  Kudos to Sarek for putting his diplomatic immunity to a very good use in the protection of both of his sons (Amanda would have been proud!).

Brava, my lady, my faith in you was very well deserved!  As far as I can tell, you hit all of the requests dead on and even gave me the best prison in the universe for Nogura.  It might as well have been a fairy tale ending: the prince got his man, I mean admiral; the wicked witch, I mean prison bitch got his comeuppance; The Enterprise may not be a glass slipper, but she only truly fits James T. The Vulcan Who Fell to Earth by CMM Rated: ADULT (NC-17) starstarstarstarstar [Reviews - 251]
Summary:

All done!

This is in answer Skutch's An Alien on Earth challenge, which goes like this:

In the 21st century when Earth people are not yet aware of life on other planets, a Vulcan who was sent to study Earth is forced to land because his ship is damaged. He speaks English because Vulcan has been studying Earth for quite some time now. The ship is damaged beyond repair so he manages to destroy it completely (wouldn't want people finding alien spaceships lying around) before he faints. The Vulcan is found by a 18 year old boy who takes him to his apartment (have fun coming up with how he manages to do that). The Vulcan wakes up soon and the boy wants to take a look at his wounds. He is too weak to resist and he fails to push the boy away before he removes his shirt and sees wounds covered with green blood.

I don't want him to accept the fact that the man is an alien too quickly, after all it really would be quite shocking, so please take your time with the story. Feel free to continue any way you think would be best, perhaps change the beginning of the story too, if you'd like.
I'd like to see a strange sort of friendship first evolve slowly, James trying to teach Spock about his culture, Spock having a very hard time understanding certain concepts, Spock finding himself telling James things he should not be telling a human, protecting him from people who cause him harm, etc.

This will probably be a very long fic, and I'm not sure where it's going or who else I'm going to bring in, but....

A couple of points for the sake of clarity:

1. Spock's full Vulcan, not a half-breed (This is AU; I can do tht).

2. Spock does have emotions. His people are strong and stoic, but not particularly repressed. So he may actually smile once in awhile.
