I am 32 years old and new to the Kirk/Spock fandom after Star Trek XI with Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Leonard Nemoy. I was always on the cusp of the fandom, having grown up with my mom watching TOS and TNG, but started watching for myself on TNG, DS9, and Voyager. I was never into writing for the fandom though until a little idea popped into my head after watching XI and made my husband groan, lol. Anyway, I am staying away from all the XI stories for now until mine is done; I really don't want to be accused of copying someone else's work should it be similar, so yeah, only TOS for me for now.

TO ALL THOSE WRITING IN ABRAM'S UNIVERSE WITH XI:

I've been trying to figure out how to work with the Abram's universe and Star Trek stardates, and I finally figured it out.

Example:

The first four digits of the stardates presented in Abram's universe are for the year of that stardate, such as 2258.42 occurs in the year 2258. Now, you can do one of two things with this.

1. You can multiply .42 by 356 (days in a year) and you get 153. This is the number of days (153) you count from January 1 to get the month and the day as such, that would be June 2 of the year 2258.

2. You could add 42 days from January 1 to get February 11 of the year 2258.

After this, I went to the following websites:

http://www.secondnature.gov.ns.ca/calendar/2258 this allowed me to see a calendar set up for that year. Then I could find out what day of the week my calculation of June 2nd fell on in this case, June 2nd is a Wednesday, and February 11 would be Thursday.

After that, I went to http://www.hillschmidt.de/gbr/sternenzeit.htm where I used the first calculator, entering the year, month, day and time down to the seconds I want to be in my story, and I'm able to get a stardate for that time. (Abram's stardates are all in the negatives because Earth wasn't using a stardate at that time). Hope this helps with all the Abrams' universe stories.
