Date: 08/23/2014 Title: Chapter 12: Summon the Future

I was so excited to see an update for this story, and continue to be drawn in to the interaction between Spock and Kirk.  They are both very complex characters, and you capture that so well, and I am particularly enjoying watching Kirk's subtle changes with regard to Spock as they spend more time together.  I imagine that the spike in telepathy that Spock is experiencing is because they have perhaps bonded without formal intention?  Kirk is not a very sympathetic character, but I can't help feeling for him, especially with respect to his history and the fact that he seems to be revealing weaknesses involuntarily: his attitude toward the children, for example, and what T'Pau sees with Spock.  Those weaknesses could destroy him in this cruel universe, and take Spock with him.  I am anxiously waiting for more of this compelling story!  -C

Author's Response:

Thank you!! Kirk is definitely changing because of Spockh, yes.  "Kirk is not a very sympathetic character, but I can't help feeling for him..."  This is almost precisely what the goal is for him.  You should be viewing him almost the same way that Spockh sees him, and right now, it is not in a very positive light.  He is his abuser, his captor, and controls everything Spockh can and cannot do aboard the ship.  Like Spockh, readers are not supposed to trust him.  But as McCoy tells Sarek earlier, Spockh is actually safest with Kirk because he is the least of all evils on the ship.  Mitchell would be far worse, for example (looking at how he now treats Marlena).  Yet, what Sarek says in reply is also true: that the least cruel is not synonymous with being kind.  So, I am glad that you don't necessarily sympathize/like Kirk - because as of this point in the story, you are not supposed to be rooting for him.  He is revealing his weaknesses involuntarily, you are exactly right.  "Those weaknesses could destroy him in this cruel universe, and take Spock with him."  It's for that reason exactly why he is so uneasy by the end of his scene in Sickbay.  He knows his actions could either instill fear in the crew or it could be the exact opposite and place him at extreme risk.  Working on the next part.  Hopin to have it ready earlier than this one.  Thanks for the lovely review! ~ RK

Summary:

In the aftermath of Spock's blinding in Operation Annihilate, Spock takes comfort from his bondmate, and together they plan for their future.

Summary:

It’s a question of biology. Vulcan biology.

The problem with falling in love with a member of an insanely private species is that it just might take you the best part of a five year mission to work out that the feelings are requited. And then you might discover that he’s already decided that the two of you can never be together.

And what are you supposed to do if he won’t tell you why?

Written as a response to T'Lara’s ingenious challenge, which is noted when it shows up in-text. Huge thanks to my fantastic betas Frodolass, penguin_attie and miloowen for being, well, fantastic. Any mistakes that remain are all mine.

I love your characterizations of Jim and Spock.  I LOVE them.  So TOS, and just perfect.  And this chapter was also perfection, and I am so happy to read that you will be continuing to explore their happiness a bit longer.  I'm interested to see how they'll solve their "problem", but also look eagerly forward to simply reading their interactions and spending some time in your world for them.  -C

Author's Response:

Thank you so much! Their happiness makes me happy; I am kind of a little bit addicted to writing these chapters. I don't know that their problem can ever be solved, per se, but there are ways and means of enjoying a healthy and vigorous sex life in the presence of lava lube, and these guys, I'm quite sure, are the ones to find them all :-)

Oh, eimeo, this was perhaps the best chapter of K/S I've ever read.  I can't say enough how much I enjoyed it, and your line "that will never cease to take his breath away" was so romantic and real and made me breathless, too.  Thank you so much for this story.  -Cate

Author's Response:

Oh my goodness - really? Thank you so much! And I'm so pleased you liked that line. I fell in love with that line a little bit as I wrote it (which is why I had to give it a reprise at the end of the chapter), and there's nothing quite so satisfying as hearing someone else loved a thing that I loved. Thank you again!

Dear James/ Perfect by Miss Car Rated: Mature Content (Teen) starstarstarstarstar [Reviews - 48]
Summary:

Sequel to Dear Spock: Happily ever after is not an endpoint but rather a state that needs constant maintenance. A post STID story that deals with all the unpleasant stuff between our protagonist saving the day and the start of the five-year mission but with humor. Even in a 'coma' Jim can cause complete chaos with his programming 'skills'. Pairings: Established and trying to keep it that way K/S, and it’s complicated U/M.

This can probably be read as a standalone with minimal confusion.

I am really enjoying this story.  It is hard to really contemplate what the process of regaining a lifetime of memories and experiences would be like, and especially in the case of such a complicated personality.  And it is so fitting that Jim, and secondarily McCoy, are present for this introspective journey.

Your writing is subtle, and thoughtful, and very deep.  I agree with WeirdLittleStories that a second reading is as much an enjoyable discovery as the first.  And, as a diehard fan of TOS, I am drawn to that same subtlety and depth in Jim and Spock's relationship; so much of which seemed to occur outside of the direct storylines.

Thank you for your excellent work!      -C

Thank you so much for this tremendous story.  This last chapter was so moving, and so perfect that it included a peek into the Spock-Sarek-Jim dynamic and how it must have changed over the years and culminating at Seleya.  Throughout this entire story, the depth and dimension of the relationship between our boys was so delicately and yet so deeply conveyed, and I enjoyed it immensely.  Thank you again for all your hard work and for your wonderful talent.
