Summary: In the episode "Devil In The Dark" (first season), Spock makes contact with the Horta at first without inducing a full meld. He refers to "empathy" in explaining the information he gets from the Horta this way - yet more proof that Spock is more than a touch telepath.
The following "dribble" is the dialogue from the end of the season, slightly enhanced by the slightly obsessed author. This is one of the cases where *Spock* starts the flirting. Spock is probably in a particularly good mood with Kirk because Kirk chose not to kill Spock's fascinating horta specimen when push came to shove and it was only Kirk's life at risk.
Experiences like that make a Vulcan think that he's finally found someone to appreciate his stamp collection.

The ending was mostly because I wanted some way for Kirk to have planned the whole thing, and in a story that was done in Spock's POV that was the only way I could think of doing it.
