I have to say up front that this trope is not one that I am a fan of.  After decades of working in child protection, even the slightest nod toward a young-much older relationship relationship is iffy for me.  However, I decided to read your story and am glad I did.  What appealed to me was the fact that it was portrayed as a mutual weakness - Spock being in his Time and Kirk being young and stupid.  Plus you wrote some of the most intense sexual stuff I've seen in a while.  I don't know that I will read another story in this vein, but I am glad I read yours.  Well done.

Your review's made my day :) I'm honored that you gave this story a chance even though you're no fan of this trope.

I understand your position. Usually, I hate relationships depicting young people with much older men too, but Spock Prime and Jim are an exception. There's just something fascinating about them, not only because of who they are, but because of how they met. That any version of Jim Kirk could find Spock Prime and give him hope when the man had basically lost everything and had been at his lowest... I don't know, it does something to me.

But I'm one of these people who believe that a relationship between them could never work in the long term. Deep friendship, yes. Perhaps a small interlude where they both allow themselves to become more. But that is all.

"A mutual moment of weakness" -> This. You've nailed it. This is exactly how I wanted to portray their actions and I'm glad you got it.

Having mulled on this for an hour or two, I find I'm hungry for "the rest of the story". I think there's room for continuing this. I'm very invested in discovering how things proceed between Selik and Jim after this. Both immediately post-coitus and in the coming weeks and months as it becomes evident that Spock is not coming back. I foresee an eventual make-do relationship - make-do for both Selik and Jim - but a not unfulfilling one and one that does culminate in a marriage bond that is at the same time true to the bond that lies between them and yet not untrue to the bond they have to their others. And then, eventually, after Selik has passed, long in the future, a reconciliation between Spock and Jim. After all, what is, is.

Now please write it!!

Thank you so much for your great review!

I honestly love that you've given so much thought to this story :) Unfortunately, a make do relationship between Spock Prime and Jim is not something I had planned on writing. What happened between them was a mistake and they both acknowledge that fact. Maybe if Spock had still been with Uhura, things would have been different, I don't know. There's a sequel in the works, I can tell you that much, but it revolves more around Spock.

But I love imagining different possibilities about where this could go, so don't hesitate if you want to discuss it further :)
