This really was a twist of fate. It was terrific! It was very sweet and poignant to see Spock discovering the crash followed by his utter refusal to leave Jim while he was hospitalized.

Author's Response:

Thank you for the comment! I'm glad you enjoyed my fix-it story! =)

We are not always lucky to have a second chance. We often take people for granted. But, when a life is in the balance, you would do anything for that individual to survive. Whatever problems Jim and Spock had they were no longer important because they got that second chance. Lovely story.

Author's Response:

I love stories in which people get second chances, so in the end this was uplifting to write even if it was emotional at times. Thank you so much for reading and for your comment!

This was such a great read. It was a great story, loved the non-Nexus of course, it was well written and the characters are so real. Also, it was a very mature look on a long term relationship. Relationships are hard, and get more complicated as they go on and each stage comes w/it's own issues that being w/your soulmate won't magically solve. But that deep love and strong friendship will make you try, which I think Spock would've done anyhow, but the accident just brought what matters into stark relief faster (and saved Jim from the Nexus). Love Spock risking losing himself for Jim (reminds me of the Robin Williams, RIP, character is What Dreams May Come) and on a lighter note - LOVE BONES! you wrote him so well, he brings such a je ne said quoi support to these two. You got the relationship between these 2 spot on! (for me, ST is Spock-Jim, the 3 Musketeers, Spock-McCoy). And your ending was a delight - great staging, emotional w/out sappy, so many details that just made a great picture. thanks for writing! :)

Author's Response:

Yes, I agree! Relationships are hard, and even with soulmates they'd still have their challenges. Bones is my favorite character, so it's nice to hear that you think I write him well. I'm very fond of the dynamic between Spock and Bones, and I particularly enjoyed writing those two. Thank you so much for your comment! I'm glad you enjoyed the story!

I agree with Dunyazad-this was a challenging piece in a very introspective and powerful way.  The way Jim deals with his retirement, I imagine, would be difficult no matter what, and his stubbornness comes through.  Self-pity, too, perhaps, and something else which would have motivated him to go on the Enterprise-B (and even still would, notwithstanding the terrible ordeal he had endured).  I myself have firmly dismissed "Generations" from my head canon and loved how you dealt with its avoidance here.  I also loved Spock's persistent selflessness, and how you portrayed McCoy.  And I was left with something still unresolved at the end, and I found it fitting to the story-the underlying issue between Jim and Spock maybe not completely dealt with, and maybe would continue not to be.  Am I right?  Lovely work-very well done.  -Cate

Author's Response:

I can't imagine Jim handling retirement well at first, poor dear. I actually decided to write this because of "Generations," and like you I tend to ignore that movie in my head canon. It needed fixing! And yes, there are definitely things that weren't dealt with by the end of the story. I would have liked to continue it and explore everything a bit more, but I had a deadline so I left it as is! I like the idea that the course of Spock's life was altered since it will now continue to have Jim in it, though Spock only suspects what would have happened and can't know for sure. So, there's no telling what the future holds for them, though we can assume there will be lots of love, challenges, and adventure. =) Thank you!

I don't know how to say this exactly, but this was such a refreshing change from the kind of Old Married Spirk I had expected. I thought it might be sweet and sentimental. Instead, underneath the heart-stopping jeopardy, it was about the painful, sometimes agonizing changes in a relationship as the partners grow older. Yet in the end, this profoundly loving story was full of hope. Thank you for writing this unusual and challenging story.

Author's Response:

I do prefer to write things that challenge me in some way, and I'm glad everything I wanted to convey came across. Thank you so much for reading and leaving a comment! =)
