I'm confused - when exactly is this supposed to be taking place? You said you watched "the scene of Jim's death" in preparation for writing this... I'm assuming you mean when he dies in ST: Generations while helping Picard fight Soran (since they seem to have a body to bury, which they wouldn't when he went missing from the Ent-B when his body was sucked into the Nexus). You even mention Picard (albeit misspelled) speaking at the funeral. But if that is when this is supposed to be set, most of the other characters in this story should already be dead, themselves. Spock's mother dies sometime prior to Sarek's appearance in TNG, as he is married to another woman, Perrin, then. According to Shatner's post-Gen book trilogy, McCoy is still alive (at 144!), so I'll give you that one, and presumably Scotty is still alive, thanks to the transporter loop the Ent-D rescued him from. But to have ALL of them still alive and attending the funeral is unrealistic, given that the youngest of them, Chekov would be 126 years old when the Soran incident happens.
