At least for me, this line feels very right regarding Kirk's attraction to Spock (and vice versa). I don't see either of them as exclusively straight (The Ship's Closet helped convince me of that) nor completely gay (I find no reason to dismiss Miranmee, Edith or Droxine); Spock and Kirk would and will simply always want to be with each other, regardless of gender.
Please please please, his mind whispered, pleaded. Please, Spock, just don't take someone who loves you less than I do. I couldn't bear it....
Love that part, it's beautiful 'cause it -without being overly sappy or melodramatic- clearly conveys both a sense of Kirk's desperation as well as his wish for Spock to be happy.
"But if in some alternate universe we chose another path, I am content to remain in ours."
Love that finishing line- something big, metaphysical and mind-boggling, pondered in calm, practical Spockian manner :)

Love this story, it's beautiful and sexy and sheer sweetness, with just the right amount of angst in it- love how the quilt mentioned at the start of the story gets a small reappearance, it's a little detail but it tied off the story neatly. And pon Bones... :D

I avoided most of the early k/s stories for the simple reason I could not find Kirk and Spock in any of them. I was quite happy to find their characters in Desert Heat. I could 'hear' Kirk's voice so clearly even as he found himself doing the unimaginable. The author conveyed his anger, resentment and loyalty so very clearly and his understanding of what this could mean for the future of their friendship. Very well done.

I had always thought a threesome with The Trio would be improbable, but the author handles the personalities so deftly I was amused and curious. To be succored so after a trauma was an amazing gift for the doctor. As I have found this author handles sexual intercourse without losing the vunerability and the sense of wonder that the characters have. I enjoyed the story very much and will re-read with as much enjoyment as the first time.

I love this series, I'm so amazed by the sheer HISTORY of "Spork" stories.
There is a great song that matches the mood of the first three stories perfectly.
Also a fantastic fan video for the new 2009 version of the coolest crew ever to serve on the bridge of a Star Fleet ship.
