Spock works for Starfleet by using his telepathic abilities to dive into the culprit's mind. He's done that for years now - however, his most difficult case is only now beginning. It's been unceremoniously dropped into his lap by Admiral Pike and revolves all around the famous and young Captain Kirk.What exactly has happened in the Captain's rooms on the Enterprise? Why has there been found the body of a woman - literally torn to shreds? It'll be difficult to get information out of the Captain; and even more difficult to get them out of his staff, it seems. They're tightly knit and don't make things easy for the Vulcan.

However, Spock not only has to worry the mysterious case - he also needs to keep his wits about him in a world that just doesn't seem to have a place for him. And why - oh why - did he choose just now to fall in love?!

The depiction of the characters - at least Spock - is quite different from what I usually do. Spock has a good side helping of mirror!Spock, but I hope it will be logical in the course of the story why he's the way he is^^

Summary:

AU. Academy Fic. Jim's maternal bloodline is that of Federation alligned Humanoid race known as Veenans (Veena for singular), a peaceful, advanced race that are also heavily empathic. Because of their genetic evolution, some are even telekenetic. This species is uniguely united; seeing as all others as "brothers" and "sisters". Also, because of their genetic makeup, Veenans hardly, if ever, engage in sex with someone without a proper empathic bond to keep them stable.  One sign of a Veena is that their irises glow slightly when they are emotionally overwhelmed or excited. Veenu blood is strong in Jim, and after joining Starfleet, becomes infatuated with the Vulcan professor Spock. Due to Spock's half-Human heritage with a blend of Vulcan passions (albeit repressed), it appeals to Jim, who begins making an empathic bond with the Vulcan unknowingly. Spock finds Jim's company- as well as that of Uhura's -appealing. He, intially, sees Jim as nothing more than a friendly aqcuaintance, but overtime the Cadet's intelligence and friendly personality attracts him more and more. Eventual K/S. POINTS: Once Jim finds out he is unconsciously bonding with Spock, becomes horrified that Spock may not reciprocate, and tries to avoid the Vulcan in order to find a way to dissolve the bond. Spock becomes suspicious and won't take the hint to leave Jim alone. BONUS POINTS: Jim's mom is a sweetheart, and Jim confides in her his feelings with Spock, who then helps Jim come to accept what he feels. (Due to Winona being Veena, she is affectionate and close with her son, despite losing her husband at his birth.) BONUS POINTS: Before Spock realizes he's in love with Jim, Jim becomes slightly protective/possessive of Spock. Not violent- just somewhat defensive and territorial. Jim cannot help the primative instincts rising within him, and a few times confuses his friends, himself and Spock by the protective streak that he has over the Professor. PURE LOVE: If Spock's parents come for a Starfleet gala, and bring T'Pring and her family to visit as well. Jim does NOT like it, and gets paranoid/territorial of seeing T'Pring and Spock together.

Okay, that scene in the movie where Jim offers Nero et al Mercy and Nero refuses. What if Nero had accepted the offer?
That's what I want to see: Nero and Ayel on the Enterprize as, I don't know, Head of the Security (Redshirt/Connon Fodder) Division, or something else that means they have to help keep Kirk from getting harmed.
Bonus: Now that they're on the Enterprise's side, with most people being suspictius of them, Nero and Ayel are mostly/completely loyal to Kirk. As in: No matter if it's a misson, diplomatic banquet on Earth, or shore leave in a bar: do not mess with our Human! You will be seriously messed up! (After the Enterprize returns from the battle, I can see some poor reporter's camera getting squished because he was paparazzing Jim.)
Double Bonus: If they end up as part of the 'family' aka the Bridge Crew. Just something that would make others go: You let them do what! and no one on the Enterprise thinks twice about it. Like: Ayel teaching self-defense classes to the tranfers so they don't end up dead the first time they beam down or Nero being the welcoming committee for visitors, ambassadors, high-risk jail transports (What? They gotta use the brig for something don't they?), helping Spock accept his planet's destruction because they actually know what it's like, ectera.
Triple Bonus: If Spock's the one who protests that 'this is a horrible idea, they blew up my planet/mom/we're all going to be murdered in our sleep' ; and Jim being fine with it because he is friends with NU-version Nero and NU-version Ayel.

Spock goes through the wormhole after Nero, but the Kelvin destroys Nero and his ship, being destroyed in the process. Baby Jim is orphaned, and a mysterious Vulcan named Selik adopts him. Vulcan isn't destroyed, and Selik raises Jim there, so Jim knows more about Vulcans than many humans do.
